The two defining characteristics of the new CTE
will be (a) Integration of academic and
career-focused teaching and (b) Contextual
teaching. Consequently in the new CTE, most
teachers will be called upon to change the way
they teach. CTE teachers will present their
material from a more academic point of view, and
academic teachers will present theirs within the
context of practical applications.

In order to respond to this changing environment
the Division of Professional- Technical
Education needed a plan. This project is a part
of that Plan.

Project overview

• Move all PTE curriculum to an electronic database
• Build content goals based upon industry
  standards
• Build content goals that show how PTE courses
  help students gain the skills needed to pass
  Idaho Standard Achievement Tests.

• Have coursework designed that could easily show
  what was taught and assessed at the secondary
  level to enhance articulation with the
  postsecondary level.
• Have a system that would allow us to begin to
  move to standard end-of- course assessments.
• Improve the quality of curriculum

Why IPSI software?

• Education in Idaho and across the country is
  going through a transition.
• Every course at the secondary level will need to
  be able to show how the instruction in that class
  helps students meet Idaho Academic Achievement
  Standards.

Why IPSI software?

• The Idaho Division of Professional-Technical
  Education wants to help PTE teachers in school
  districts be able to show administrators and
  parents how PTE coursework helps students meet
  these standards.

Why IPSI software?

• Since curriculum used in PTE classes is approved
  at the Idaho Division of Professional-Technical
  Education office, it made sense to have a teacher
  take one course and link it to Idaho Academic
  Achievement Standards and share the work as
  opposed to having each teacher do their own
  individually.

Why IPSI software?

• Establish a standard format at a reasonable cost
  to IDPTE so every teacher would participate.
• Use a software that would allow teachers to
  create a teaching package

How is IPSI being coordinated with SDE and the
ISIMS Project?
We continue to have discussions with the
Department of Education and the software vendors
for the ISIMS (Idaho Student Information
Management System) project. They encouraged us to
move forward with IPSI as it will blend with the
ISIMS project.

Goals

• All PTE courses will be in electronic format
  (Syllabi, Lesson plans, Assessments).
• Linked Academic Achievement Standards will be
  taught/reinforced and assessed in PTE courses.
• Statewide articulation agreements will be
  possible because coursework in all parts of the
  state would have a common base.

What is proper content goal format?

• Every content goal in the course must be
  measurable. One way we can determine if the verb
  we are using is appropriate is to determine if we
  have a way to measure it.

• The automotive technology instructor is going to

Purpose of Curriculum Crosswalk Template

• The ultimate goal of planning a course should be
  to align the planning with the delivering with
  the evaluating. (Vogler, 1995).
• This process will allow you to put course goals
  into proper pedagogical structure with measurable
  assessment and crosswalk those goals to Idaho
  State Achievement Standards.

What has been done?

• Approximately 70 different PTE courses have had
  content goals identified and linked to Idaho
  Academic Achievement Standards.
• They are from each of the program areas.
• Are they perfect? Not yet but it is a good
  beginning.

What are we thinking for this next year?

• Review of work already done by other teachers for
  refinement.
• Additional courses will be put into IPSI format
  and linked to achievement standards.
• Assessment items will be collected to start
  assessment items banks.
• Some Lesson items may begin to be developed in
  IPSI.

• Take the software and other materials and put
  them in a place you can take them to your
  classroom.
• If you want to work on curriculum development
  contact your program manager.
• Share what you are doing with the IPSI software
  with administrators and fellow teachers in your
  school.
