SACS Certified Training
Professional Development Day
  • Critical Thinking is Mission Critical!

2
Connecting Critical Thinking to Student Learning
  • Individually, consider the following. Jot down
    some brief notes. (10 minutes)
  • Given SPCs definition of critical thinking, what
are some examples in your field of using critical
    thinking?
  • What problems are the most urgent or
controversial in your field in which experts
disagree on approaches to solving them?
  • Given the examples you have generated, how would
you teach someone to think critically about the
    problems in your field?
  • Envision an employer in your field who is going
to hire one of your students.  What would be
expected of your student in terms of ability to
    solve problems, analyze, predict, evaluate
situations or solutions or communicate logically?
  • In groups of 4-6, discuss one or more of the
    issues. (15 minutes)

3
Possible On-site SACS Questions
  • Within your same groups, spend 10 minutes
creating questions that may be asked of faculty,
staff or students by the visiting team.

4
