• A purposeful interaction in which one person is
  trying to obtain information from another (Gay,
  Mills, Airasian, 2006, p. 418).

Interview Guide

• Everybody asked the same question.
• Efficient use of time (umms and uhhs
  avoidedor at least minimized).
• Also allows flexibility for the researcher to be
  able to explore, probe, and ask questions that
  will elucidate and illuminate that particular
  subject (Patton, 1990, p. 283).

Interview Exercise

• 2 teams of 3
• 1 person will interview another for 5-10 minutes
  on a qualitative topic, with the other observing.

• A member of Team Social Studies

Observation exercise...

• Please observe a public setting (Benson Center,
  coffee shop, anywhere on campus, etc.) for 15
  minutes.
• Define a research question.
• Please prepare fieldnotes on what you observed
  along with comments and a diagram.
• Think of it as people watching with notes.
