The needs in our region cant be addressed by a
single organization.

• Income
• One quarter of the workforce (28 million people)
  between ages of 18-64 earn less than 19,000/year
  (the federal poverty line for a family of 4)
  (Businessweek 2006)
• Foreclosures up 53 from a year ago (AP, July 10,
  2008)
• Education
• During a recent school year, average Chicago
  public school freshmen had a GPA of 1.9 (out of
  4) and earned 2.6 Fs (University of Chicago,
  2007)
• High school dropouts are 75 more likely to be
  unemployed (IDFS, 2005)
• Health
• 1 in 6 Illinois residents are uninsured, and 80
  of those are in working families (U.S. Census,
  2005)
• Illinois ranks 47th out of 50 states in funding
  to programs that address mental health issues (IL
  Poverty Summit 2004 Report on Illinois Poverty )
