• An invention used in the Great Plains. Allowed
  farmers to section off their land without wood.
  Brought an end to the great frontier.

• A new kind of railroad car that allowed things to
  be refrigerated during transport. Created in the
  early 1900s.

Windmill

• A device used to created energy by harnessing the
  power of the wind. Wind causes vanes or rotors to
  turn creating electricity.

Farmers cooperatives

• Farmers working together to buy and use
  equipment. They cooperated to help sell their
  products for better prices and help each other
  out.

• A new kind of plow designed by John Deere in
  1853. It allowed the farming of the hard roots
  filled Plains.

Vertical/Horizontal integration

• A type of monopoly strategy of buying out
  specific companies to eliminate competition.
• Vertical involves buying out suppliers.
• Horizontal involves buying out competitors.

Interlocking directorates

• This is when the higher-up people in a
  corporation work for other companies as well and
  so have a degree of control over other companies.
  This leads to monopolistic tendencies.
