Title: NT 501 Greek II Session 4

1
NT 501Greek II- Session 4
  • Using the texts of Dr. Bill Mounce

2
Aorist/Future Passive Indicative
  • The Aorist and future passive indicative are
formed on the 6th principle part of the verb.
  • The translation of the aorist passive uses the
    helping words, was/ were
  • It designates an event of undefined aspect I
    was tested. They were flunked

English (undefined) almost always referring to a
future event I will be passed.

Differences of Aorist/Future Passive Indicative
  • There is no augment in the future passive
  • The tense formative for future is qhs, not qh. It
helps if you think of the s as a sign of all
    future tenses
  • The 3rd person plural passive form qhsan is
aorist and not future. This is the only time in
the first aorist passive that you have a s after
the qh. All other times qhs indicates the future
    passive

11
Future Passive Indicative
  • The only way to form a future passive is to use
    the aorist passive tense stem.
  • There are two kinds of future deponents
  • middle deponents built on the future active
    tense stem
  • passive deponents built on the aorist passive
    tense stem

12
2nd Future Passive Indicative
  • Aorist passive tense stem (without augment)

    Middle/passive personal endings
