• At any given location occurs once every 360
  years
• The next one in the U.S. is on Aug 21, 2017

• As the Moon orbits the Earth, its apparent size
  varies
• Only when the Moon is closest to the Earth
  (perigee) can it completely block the Sun
• If the Moon does not completely cover the Sun we
  get an annular eclipse

• Not every New Moon because Moons orbit is
  tilted by about 5 degrees
• During a New Moon phase the Moon is either above
  or below the Sun
• The tilted orbit of the Moon crosses the ecliptic
  at two points. This will happen twice a year.

• Happens when the earth comes between the sun and
  the moon causing the shadow of Earth fall on the
  moon.
• Earths atmosphere filters the blue light causing
  the moon to appear red.
• Also called Blood Moon or Hunters Moon
