  • DEFINITIONS
  • TRY for GOAL An attempt by a player to score
    two or three points by throwing the ball into his
    own basket
  • TAP FOR GOAL The contacting of the ball with
    any part of a players hand(s) in an attempt to
    direct the ball into his won basket
  • ACT OF SHOOTING Term used to describe the
    details that a player is trying for goal.

  • THE BEGINNING OF THE TRY OR TAP
  • The TRY begins with the MOTION, which habitually
    precedes the release of the ball
  • The TAP begins when the players hand (s) TOUCHES
    the ball
  • The ACT of SHOOTING begins simultaneously with
    the TRY or TAP for GOAL

  • END OF THE TRY OR TAP
  • The TRY TAP both end in exactly the same
    manner
  • When the throw or tap is successful
  • When it is certain the throw or tap is
    unsuccessful
  • When the thrown or tapped ball touches the floor
  • When the ball becomes dead

  • When the ball is clearly in flight if the
    SHOOTER shot the ball while standing on the floor
  • When the AIRBORNE SHOOTER returns to the floor
    (one foot)

  • A player is TRYING for GOAL when the player has
    the ball and is THROWING or ATTEMPTING to THROW
    for GOAL. Since a foul by the defense could
    prevent the SHOOTER from Releasing the Ball A
    Player could be Fouled in the ACT of SHOOTING
    with the ball in his hands.
