Welcome to the 21st Century IIT THIS IS IIT

Worlds most beautiful American college campuses
  • According to FORBES MAGAZINE
  • .. the Illinois Institute of Technology in
    Chicago. But admirers
  • of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the master of
    international modern
  • architecture, pointed to this schools cluster
    of steel-and-glass
  • buildings, including S.R. Crown Hall, Alumni Hall
    and the Chapel,
  • as the epitome of beauty and order. Furthermore,
    great modern
  • architects, such as Rem Koolhaas, continue to be
    admired and
  • included in the growth of the campus. In other
    words, the school
  • exhibits an independent and longterm vision for
    the look of its
  • Campus.

What is a credit hour?
  • 1 credit hour equals 1 hour of lecture
  • A graduate level course at IIT is usually 3
    credit hours
  • So, a 3 credit course at IIT means that the
course is offered three times per week or once a
    week for
  • (3 c.h. x 1 hour) 3 hours

Success Story
Julien Branlard begins work at Fermilab today as
the first John Bardeen Engineering Fellow. A
recent graduate of the Illinois Institute of
Technology, Julien Branlard isthe first
recipient of the John Bardeen Engineering
Fellowship. "Julien will make an outstanding
addition to Fermilab," said Ralph Pasquinelli,
Accelerator Division RF Department Head and the
inspiration behind the fellowship. "He's an
articulate, talented team player who will hit the
ground running with his outstanding engineering
skills." Branlard began his studies in France
and transferred to the Illinois Institute of
Technology in 2000. After graduating with a Ph.D.
in electrical engineering last December, he began
looking for a way to continue his work in the
United States. Fermilab Today 2005

CHOICE OF COURSES AT IIT
  • IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER
  • Not all courses are offered all of the time
  • Some courses will be offered once every two years
  • Some courses will be offered once every year
  • Some courses will be offered each semester
  • Some courses may not be offered/opened if there
are less than 10 students registered for the
    course
  • What you should do?
  • Regarding electives, discuss with your professor
at your home university, the elective courses you
will need to take for validation alternatives
    submit only once admitted
  • In this case, it is imperative that once
selected, you submit complete documents to IIT
for an early decision well before
  • May 1

REVISED GRE GENERAL TEST
  • In August 2011, the GRE revised General Test
replaced the GRE General Test. Featuring the new
test-taker friendly design and new questions, the
revised test more closely reflects the kind of
thinking you'll do in graduate or business school
and demonstrates that you are ready for
    graduate-level work.
  • Verbal Reasoning Measures your ability to
analyze and evaluate written material and
synthesize information obtained from it, analyze
relationships among component parts of sentences
and recognize relationships among words and
    concepts.
  • Quantitative Reasoning Measures problem-solving
ability, focusing on basic concepts of
arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis.
  • Analytical Writing Measures critical thinking
and analytical writing skills, specifically your
ability to articulate and support complex ideas
    clearly and effectively.

78
The GRE GENERAL REVISED TESThttp//www.ets.org/gr

  • VERBAL REASONING
  • The Verbal Reasoning section measures your
    ability to
  • analyze and draw conclusions from discourse
reason from incomplete data identify author's
    assumptions and/or perspective understand
multiple levels of meaning, such as literal,
    figurative and author's intent
  • select important points distinguish major from
minor or relevant points summarize text
understand the structure of a text
  • understand the meanings of words, sentences and
    entire texts understand relationships among
    words and among concepts

  • understand quantitative information
  • interpret and analyze quantitative information
  • solve problems using mathematical models
  • apply basic mathematical skills and elementary
    mathematical concepts of arithmetic, algebra,

emphasis on computation, the computer-based test
includes an on-screen calculator. And, if you are
taking the paper-based test, a calculator will be
