Estuary waters

• The total mass of salt in the estuary is called
  its salt load. The concentration of salt
• dissolved in the water is the salinity which is
  measured in grams of salt per litre of
• water, often abbreviated to parts per thousand
  (ppt)
• Freshwater gains to the estuary come from direct
  rainfall, from the river catchment areas and from
  groundwater discharging from the eastern sand
  aquifers
• Freshwater losses are through evaporation from
  the large water surface, and as outflows to the
  sea
• As the estuary water-level rises and falls, so
  its volume, respectively, increases or decreases
