  • Make a list of the following items
  • Your abstract word
  • Your four, (or fewer), concrete examples
  • Real, not made up
  • Real, not hypothetical
  • Situations where you have seen your word in action

  • Use your prewriting/list in the following way
  • Begin your introduction with one of your 4
    examples.
  • Explain how this situation makes you think of
    love or honor or whatever your abstract term
    is.
  • Make sure your abstraction/thesis shows how you
    feel about the word.

  • Use your prewriting/list in the following way
  • Use each of the rest of your examples in a
    paragraph of its own.
  • Explain how each situation makes you think of
    love or honor or whatever your abstract term
