certain way. - It is often used in conversations, speeches, and
advertizing.

- Bias is a preference for or against something
that is formed without considering all of the
information.

- Propaganda is information that is spread to
promote an opinion or idea.

- ETHOS Something that appeals to a persons sense
of what is right and wrong. Also refers to how
believable or trustworthy the speaker is. - PATHOS Something that appeals to a persons
emotions or feelings. - LOGOS Something that appeals to a persons
logical side facts, figures, numbers,
statistics, etc.
6What are the types of propaganda used to persuade
people?
- BANDWAGON The basic idea behind the bandwagon
approach is EVERYONE is doing it, and you should
too. - EXAMPLE Everyone in Lemmingtown is behind Jim
Duffie for Mayor. Shouldn't you be part of this
winning team?
7- TESTIMONIAL Testimonial is any advertisement in
which a person speaks on behalf of a product. - EXAMPLE I tried Whizzo brand floor polish and it
got my floors super clean!
8- TRANSFER The use of symbols or images to create
a feeling in the audience that is then
(hopefully) transferred to the product. - EXAMPLE An image of an American flag might be
used in an advertisement for insurance designed
to make the audience feel patriotic, secure and
safe and then those feelings get associated
with the product.
9EMOTIONAL WORDS words that make you feel
strongly about someone or something.One of the
main ways speakers or advertisers use emotion is
through creatingFEAR Making the audience feel
that if they do not buy a certain product or vote
for a certain candidate, something badwill
happen to them.EXAMPLE Home security
commercials that show a burglar breaking into a
home.
10GLITTERING GENERALITIES Using exaggerated words
and claims that make a product sound perfect or
flawless.EXAMPLE Whizzo floor wax is the BEST
floor wax in the world!
11REPETITION The product name is repeated at
least 3 times to make the viewer remember
it.EXAMPLE Get Hefty, Hefty, Hefty!
