  • A phrase is a group of related words that is used
    as a single part of speech and that doesnt
    contain both a subject and a verb.
  • Example could have been looking (no subject)
  • Example in the backyard (no subject or verb)
  • Phrases cannot stand alone as sentences.
  • Write the words below. Identify each of the
    following word groups as phrase or not a phrase.

  • A prepositional phrase includes a preposition,
    the object of the preposition, and any modifiers
    of that object
  • Example The man (from Georgia) was giving a
    speech.
  • The noun or pronoun that follows a preposition is
    the object of the preposition (OP).
  • Write the sentences below. Put parenthesis ()
    around the prepositional phrase and circle the
    OP.
