- Until recently, most thought management and
leadership were the same thing. - Management focuses on maintaining systems and
processes. - Management can maintain direction, but it cant
start or change direction.

- We assume entrepreneurs and sales people are good
leaders. - People may buy what they sell, but nobody is
usually following them. - At best the entrepreneur is able to persuade for
the moment. - They hold no long-term influence over anyone.

- Sir Francis Bacon said, Knowledge is power.
- Many people believe that those who possess
knowledge are leaders. - You can visit any university and meet intelligent
faculty who cannot lead.

- Are you leading if you are in front of the crowd?
- Being first or in the front is not leading.
- To be a leader people have to voluntarily follow
you.

- Some think leadership is based on position.
- Position does not make a leader, the leader makes
the position. - You can lose your position and still lead
informally.

- Some think that anyone can be a good leader if
they work hard enough. - More work effort is not the answer. We only have
a finite amount of energy. - It is about working smarter, not harder.
