Reactions from site

• No one was outside on the street level
• Not much housing available in downtown area
• The site on a good location for an important
  connection to the tunnel system

Goals

• Create a comfortable living area in downtown
  Houston
• Have public areas on street level
• Create a unique visual scene in the downtown area

Inspiration

• Area needs more residential influence
• Historical references in the modern surroundings
  of the site

Concepts

• Courtyard in middle
• Smaller as it go up
• Retail on bottom

Sketch model

• Overhead glazing along the base allows light into
  the tunnel and retail areas
• Curved roof to hide mechanical system from sky
  lobbies in nearby buildings
• To make more aesthetically pleasing from street
  level

Revisions

• Roof is flat and gabled- making the highest point
  125 feet
• Nine floors with larger windows on every third
  floor
• Greenery in public courtyard for retail customers
  and nice visuals for loft owners

• Personal and secure entrances to lofts
• Public courtyard with vegetation

• 10 lofts
• 4 personal entrances
• Outdoor balconies connect with alternate fire
  exits to each side
