Pencak Silat
  • Pencak Silat ('Silat') is the generic term for
    martial arts of the Indonesian/Malay archipelago.
  • Traditionally, Silat formed part of the
    education of all young men.
  • The great variety of the Indonesian/Malay
    archipelago, and the different cultures of each
    region gave rise to many different styles of
    Silat.

The "Bela Diri" (self-defence) Aspect

    hands, elbows, arms, legs, knees and feet in

Silat for Combat
  • The practitioner of Silat uses his/her entire
    body as a weapon
  • Often silat practitioners slap their own body in
    various places
  • The head, hands, and torso jerk independently of
    each other
  • Abrupt irrational movement that mislead those
    who dare to look at them
  • Some Pendekars have hypnotic powers capable of
    manipulating the mind
  • No wasted movement in this beautiful art
