1Our Christmas by class 5B
Christmas tree Today we can't imagine a Swedish
Christmas without a Christmas tree. In the
Christmas tree we hang coloured glass balls,
coloured lights and tinsel. In the top of the
Christmas tree we put a star. That star is often
a golden star. In the Christmas tree we also put
electric lights. We also have Santa Claus and
angels all over our house. In the windows, on the
walls, all over the place.
2Christmas Eve
The first advent we put up Christmas curtains and
stars in the windows. Then we do nothing for a
week before Christmas. Then my mother fills
sausage and cook kale. Its an old recipe that
its been found in the family for a long
time.(But I dont liked this food) Then we take
the Christmas tree. It is a plastic tree because
me and my brother have asthma and then decorate
the Christmas tree. The day before our Christmas
Eve which is 24/12 my mother finishes the
Christmas food and on the night we place the
Christmas present under the Christmas tree. When
we wake up next morning it is Christmas Eve. We
eat the food and open the presents.
3Lighting In Sweden you are going to see many
houses with lighting. In England it is a
tradition to compete and win a price! But in
Sweden we do not compete. In ancient times people
in Sweden worshipped the sun. They lit bonfires.
4Mickey Mouse Mickey Mouse was created by Walt
Disney. He started his career in 1928. The first
movie with Mickey Mouse was Steamboat Willie.
In 1930 he makes a debut in his first cartoon
called Lost on a desert island. A little more
about Mickeys friends Teddi and Freddi are
nephews to Mickey. They appeared for the first
time in the movie Mickeys nephews, where
Mickey adopts Teddi and Freddi. On Christmas Eve
Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse and Goofy stands
outside Mickeys house singing Christmas carols.
Mickey lives in Duck Ville, which also Donald
Duck does. As far as I know Mickey has never had
any other girl friend. Minnie has been with
Mickey since he was created in November 18th,
1928.
5An Italian Story.
Pinocchio is an Italian story by Carlo Collodi
(really Carlo Lorenzini. The pet name comes from
a village in Italian Pescia where the writers
mother was born.) The last episode published
1883, and seven years later,1890,Carlo Lorenzini
died, but he was imaginative and loved by young
and old, in castles and shacks. 1940 Walt Disney
found his second cartoon in Carlos story. Both
in the book and in the film there is a cricket as
his conscience, but with his own name and
personality as opposed to Collodis story.
6Goat The goat has its origin from the old Nordic
lord Tors carriage of goats. Once upon the time
young people used to dress up one person as a
goat. Afterwards they went around the farms and
houses and sang a song or had simpler
performances. For this they got food or drink as
a reward. They often saved this until a party in
the new years eve. Around Christmas it was
allowed to beg for food and money.
7Christmas food In the morning we use to eat rice
pudding with cinnamon, sugar and some butter on
it. We have sandwiches too. In the afternoon we
use to eat before or after Donald Duck (on TV
15.00). Then you use to eat salmon, ribs, small
sausages, meat balls, potatoes, Christmas ham,
Janssons temptation, sauce and different
lettuce. And you use to drink Christmas shandy.
We also use to have different kinds of bread at
the table. On them we have good tasting bread
spreads like cheese and pâté.
Some recipes Rice a la Malta Rice a la Malta is
rice pudding with whipped cream and vanilla
sugar. Dreams The ingredients are butter, flour,
baking ammonia (NH4HCO3), vanilla sugar and oil.
Dreams are biscuits or cookies. Lucia cats
(buns) The ingredients are yeast, sugar, milk,
wheat flour, saffron, raisins and sometimes
cottage cheese. Ginger biscuits The ingredients
are water, sugar, butter, wheat flour,
bicarbonate, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and

8Were Father Christmas lives Some people think
that Santa Claus lives in the North pole. But
some people think that he lives in
Finland. Others think he lives in the forest. And
some think he lives at the South pole. Some
people think that he lives on the moon. The
tradition says that he lives in the North pole.
9Santa Claus The Swedish Santa is an old man. He
has a red hood, white and red coat, black boots
and a big white beard. In the night the Santa is
coming home to many children. He puts the X-mas
gifts under the X-mas tree. X-mas gifts In
Sweden there are many X-mas gift traditions. In
my family we have the gifts under the X-mas tree.
10Small Santas In the early 1900 century, the
humans in Sweden and some other countries
believed in small santas under the house. They
were friendly if they got a little bit porridge
every day. If they didnt get their porridge,
they became angry and mean! X-mas gifts In
Sweden Santa Claus knocks on the door and says
Are there any good children here? or Santa
Claus puts the presents outside the door and
rings the bell and then fly away!
11How Santa Claus comes to the families homes
He takes the sleigh. The sleigh is pulled by
reindeers. Santa Claus stays outside our door and
asks are they any nice kids here? If they are he
gives them presents. Sometimes Santa Claus can
come from the woods. In some families Santa Claus
doesnt come. Then he puts the presents under the
Christmas tree.
