3Identifying the Issue
4Key Issue
- The Traditional Learning Centre (TLC) Program
(North) has experienced a significant increase in
enrolment. Due to its successful growth, King
George School can no longer accommodate the
program and allow for its continued growth and
expansion to Grade 12.
52006 TLC Program Projections at King George
Elementary School
- Enrolment in the TLC
- program is increasing year
- after year.
- 110 students are
- anticipated to
- enter Grade 5 in
- September.
- Enrolment in the
- TLC program at King
- George has increased by
- almost 400.
6Enrolment breakdown
- The combined enrolment of students in the TLC and
- French Immersion programs at King George is
- anticipated to be approximately 770 students for
- September 2006.
- When compared to the provincial capacity of
- 656, the student population is projected to be
more - than 100 students above capacity.
7Impact of Projections on TLC program at King
George Elementary
- King George Elementary School is not large
- enough to accommodate the tremendous growth
- and popularity in both the TLC and French
- Immersion programs.

enrolment in 1987 - Introduction of TLC in 2002

Elementary School - Need additional space for growth, consolidation
and expansion
11Administrative Recommendation
- Since 2004, Administration has been working with
representatives of the TLC community to find a
suitable facility for the consolidation and
expansion of the TLC program north of the Bow

the TLC program to a suitable facility - Also provides ample opportunity for growth and
expansion of the Kindergarten to Grade 6 French
Immersion program

be designated as the TLC high school site for the
Grades 9 to 12 TLC program

to 85 by 2015 - Why utilization?
- Strategies to maintain utilization rates
18Section C
19Implications with Respect to Busing
-
- 400 students in Grades 5 to 9 would be eligible
for charter transportation approximately 16 bus
routes required to transport all of these
students - 30 Grade 10 students would be eligible for
subsidized bus passes - 14 students live within the walk limit of
Balmoral School and would not eligible for
subsidized transportation
20Educational Impacts of Non-Closure
- Ability to offer current level of TLC
programming would be challenging - School facility does not have capacity to
accommodate all TLC students projected for
September 2006 - TLC program would not be able to expand to
include the high school component
