2How and WhyHill Highlanders use Study Island
- This is our second year to have Study Island on
our campus. - We have seen benchmark scores increase anywhere
from 5 to 27 points. The Study Island format is
directly aligned with - our TEKS which helps reinforce and apply our
students knowledge in preparation for our TAKS
Tests. In addition - to the extra practice, the students thoroughly
enjoy playing the games as a fun way to do
homework! Beginning in January, - the students are required to have at least 100
minutes per a - two week period for a grade. Also, our parents
at Hill enjoy - being able to have an at-home computer program
that they can actually see what their children
are doing at school.
3Ideas Behind the Study Island Lab
- I explained to the students the Study Island
contest. I told the students the areas of our
Computer Lab in which we would be decorating. I
teach 4 Blocks of Science. The creation of
decorations would be done during their Science
Block. I printed the explanations which appear
at the beginning of each grade level for grades
3-6 of the Study Island website. The students
were instructed to create something that would
fit into our Study Island theme and to somehow
include the skills that are covered in that grade
level. Each Block was able to choose which grade
level they wanted to represent.
