6Stage 1 Training
- Teachers attended a workshop in December 2006, to
become familiar with ICT and the planning and
designing of the web-based lesson - Teachers attended a second workshop to learn how
to use Hot Potatoes (an authoring tool) and how
to set up a blog account and start designing
their lessons to be used by their students in the
lab - Each teacher was assigned a tutor to help them
either on-line or face-to-face to plan, design
and apply the web-based lessons in the lab
7Stage 2 Tutoring and using learned skills in the
school lab
- Tutors contacted teachers to start planning the
web-based lessons. Some meetings took place in
the schools where the teachers work or at the
British Council. - After the first meeting, tutors planned the day
they were going to observe the teachers using
their web-based lessons in the lab. - Teachers were asked to upload lesson plans and
lab reports to the ICT CHACAO (Yahoo) group
8Principal Difficulties
- The need for more time using the laboratories for
the English classes - The English teachers work in the schools as part
time-teachers. It is neccesary for them to be
full time - The teachers have to receive more training in the
use of technology - It is neccesary to have a Coordinator of the
Program in the schools.
9MAIN SUCCESS
- - Teachers that participated in the Project
were satisfied with the method. They want to
continue using CALL". -
- - Students discovered a new method and a fun way
to learn English. They enjoyed it and are very
motivated -
- Principals are more involved in the Program and
will be more enthusiastic, giving support to the
teachers
10Perspectives of the Program
Following the success of the Program, it is
proposed to continue the agreement between the
British Council and the Chacao Municipality.
The aims of future are
1 To consolidate the achievements of Phases 1 and
2 in terms of the pupils motivation
towards learning English 2 To extend the
techniques and activities developed in the first
two phases to more English teachers and
learners at municipal schools 3 To try out new
techniques and activities related to Computer
Assisted Language Learning (CALL)
114 It is hoped to eventually establish the use of
the computer laboratory as a
regular timetabled component in the English
classes at municipal schools. In addition every
effort will be made to relate the content of the
CALL classes to the other topics covered in the
subjects of the official syllabus.
5. The British Council could provide CALL
training to the municipal school English teachers
involved in the project, and provide support to
these teachers throughout the next school year
in terms of the design, implementation and
evaluation of activities.
