1992 HAS DEVELOPED AMONG OTHER THINGS, THE
PROGRAMME YOUNG ENTERPRISE, BUSINESS FOR A DAY
AND RYLA HAS WRITTEN A TEXTBOOK AND ARTICLES ON
THE SUBJECT ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND LEADERSHIP IN
FINLAND (MAINLY THE SWEDISH SPEAKING PART OF
FINLAND) HAS DONE STUDY TRIPS TO CANADA, THE
USA, WALES, GERMANY AND THE SCANDINAVIAN
COUNTRIES AND FAMILIARISED HIMSELF WITH YOUNG
ENTREPRENEURSHIP

SUBJECT RYLA AND LEADERSHIP IN FINLAND.
SINCE THE ECONOMICAL CRISIS OF THE TWENTIETH
CENTURY THE SUBJECT ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND
LEADERSHIP HAS BEEN STRONGLY EMPHASISED IN
FINLAND. OUR GOVERNMENT HAS GIVEN HIGH PRIORITY
FOR THIS TO BE INCLUDED IN OUR SCHOOLS AT ALL
STAGES.

WHAT IS RYLA ?
RYLA IS AN OFFICIAL ROTARY PROGRAMME WHICH
STARTED 1971, IN FINLAND FROM 1999. IT IS A
METHOD FOR ROTARIANS TO TEACH LEADERSHIP/ENTREPREN
EURSHIP AND WORK EXPERIENCE TO YOUNG PEOPLE.
IDEA.
ROTARY ARRANGES TEACHING OCCASIONS TO DEVELOP
LEADERSHIP AMONG THE YOUNG GENERATION, OUR COMING
LEADERS AND ENTREPRENEURS. THE THOUGHT IS TO
TROUGH VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL METHODS, SUCH AS
LECTURES, TEAMWORK AND CASE STUDIES PROMOTE
ENTREPRENEUR FEELING AND LEADERSHIP AMONG YOUNG
PEOPLE.

WHY?
RYLA IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR ROTARY AND IN TODAYS
BUSINESS WORLD ONE WISHES ESPECIALLY TO DEVELOP A
BUSINESS SPIRIT AMONGST THE YOUNG.
IN FINLAND THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT
CONSIDERING THE FUTURE BUSINESS STRUCTURE WITH
SELF-EMPLOYMENT AS THE GOAL.
RYLA IN FINLAND TURNS TO TWO GROUPS OF
YOUTHS A.14-18 YEAR OLDS B.19-30 YEAR OLDS
BOTH MODELS HAVE BEEN TESTED IN THE
OSTROBOTHNIAN REGION THE A MODEL HAS BEEN COMMON,
WHILST B HAS BEEN COMMON IN THE TURKU REGION.

IMPLEMENTATION.
A. THE NYKARLEBY MODEL. -ROTARIANS TEACH IN UPPER
SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS AS GUEST
LECTURERS. -ROTARIANS ACT AS COUNSELLORS IN THE
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME YOUNG ENTERPRISE. B.RYLA
SEMINARS,CAMPS. -WEEKEND SEMINARS FOR 15-40
YOUTHS, SCHOOLING PROGRAMMES WITH LECTURES,
TEAMWORK, COMPANY VISITATIONS AND CASE
STUDIES. C. INTERNATIONAL RYLA SEMINARS. SAME AS
B, BUT WITH YOUTH FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE.

CONCLUSION.
RYLA FITS WELL IN FINLAND AND THE INTEREST IS
GROWING. RYLA HAS HAD SUCCESS ESPECIALLY IN THE
COASTAL REGIONS, AREAS WITH LONG TRADITIONS OF
ENTREPRENEURING, KNOWLEDGEABLE BUSINESSMEN AND
WOMEN AND WITH FINE YOUTHS. FOR ROTARY IN FINLAND
RYLA IS A BIG CHALLENGE AND WE NEED TRUE
ENTHUSIASTS FOR IT TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
