- Retune Updating the channel frequencies via the
Customer Programming Software/Radio Service
Software programming software - Reprogram Updating operating software via
software FLASH with new frequencies band plan - Update One or more boards must be replaced in
equipment to enable retuning or reprogramming - Replace Cannot be updated to support new
frequencies or band plans
3Impacts to Voice Subscribers
4Replacement Radio Update
- Motorola has publicly published the list of
mobile and portable subscriber radios that cannot
accept the new software since August 2004 - Motorola and Sprint Nextel have executed a
contract to define which subscriber units will
have new rebanding software developed and tested
5Non-NPSPAC Systems Equipment Impact
- All equipment can be retuned to new frequencies
- Motorola recommends replacing subscribers with
class B IM protection for better interference
protection after rebanding - Costs to replace radios that can be retuned or
reprogrammed will be the responsibility of the
licensee Class B IM rated models are - GTX Mobiles

12Replacement Voice Subscribers
13Why is There a Rebanding Subscriber?
- FCCs Report and Order provides for Comparable
Facilities for licensees - Licensees cant have significant gains in
features/product - TA FCC have emphasized this requirement
- Motorolas approach is to create subscribers
comparable to those units being replaced - 4 models created to meet majority of need
- We created the units from current products
- Familiar form factor
- Allows systems to update fleet at minimal costs

Replace Subscriber
- Guidelines for choosing 1500 RB or 2500 RB
- Portable
- If portable is a Model III, requires encryption
or 255 channels, its replacement is an XTS 2500
RB - LTS2000 is replaced by the XTS 2500 RB
- Others are replaced with XTS 1500 RB
- Mobile
- If mobile requires encryption or 255 channels,
its replacement is an XTL 2500 RB - LCS2000 is replaced by the XTL 2500 RB
- Others should be replaced with XTL 1500 RB

Rebanding radios are designed to match features
of replaced products All units can be upgraded
to ASTRO 25 via traditional Price Book processes
18Subscriber Summary
- Be sure youve checked your interoperability
plans - If you need NPSPAC trunking capability after
rebanding, reprogram subscribers with rebanding
software or use replacement radio chart - Replacement radios are driven by 3 factors
- Display
- Encryption
- Number of channels
- Accessories will be swapped on 1 for 1 basis
19Impacts to Infrastructure
20How Weve Designed the New Software to Simplify
Rebanding
- Developed software to minimize the number of
times each subscriber is touched - Doubled Failsoft and Control Channel lists
- Subscribers are reprogrammed retuned first
- Subscribers then use old or new plans as needed
throughout system rebanding - Enables communications to be maintained while
site by site updates occur
21Good News
- Software is available Now
- Infrastructure software cannot be ordered without
Suitability Assessment being completed to ensure
compatibility with system - All products shipping as of Jan 23, 06 already
have new Rebanding software embedded
