Title: GroupWise Overview

1
GroupWise Overview
  • GroupWise features
  • Email
  • USM-wide Group Scheduling (Calendaring)
  • Contact Management, including the entire USM
    address book
  • You can access your GroupWise mail, calendar, and
contacts using Windows software (the Windows
Client) on campus, or using the web
(WebAccess) anywhere in the world. You can also
use your favorite IMAP client to access your
    mail.
  • GroupWise mailboxes are 75MB in size. Formerly,
your mail and your personal documents shared
20-50MB of space on your personal folder (your
U drive). The new 75MB GroupWise mailbox is
    reserved exclusively for mail.

Before Installing...
Before you will be able install the GroupWise
Windows client, you need to have a GroupWise
account. To request a GroupWise account, contact
us via email at gwdeploy_at_usm.maine.edu. Let us
know that you're taking our self-guided tour, and
that you'd like to convert to GroupWise. After
we have created your account, you will receive a
confirmation email. Now you're ready to install!
Note all mail addressed to your usm.maine.edu
email address will begin arriving in
GroupWise. Users of Corel WordPerfect 9 for
Windows will require an upgrade. Contact the
Helpdesk at x4029 if you are a Corel WP 9 user.

Reading Attachments, pt 2
It is important to regard the GroupWise viewer as
a viewer, not as a replacement for a native
application. It will allow you to quickly view
the content of a document, but you cannot edit
that document, and its formatting may not be
perfect in the viewer. Viewing documents inside
GroupWise, however, is generally faster and safer
than opening the document's native application.
14
Sending Mail, pt 1
Click the New Mail button on the
toolbar, or choose Ctrl-M on your keyboard, to
compose a new mail message.
15
Sending Mail, pt 2

Sending Mail, pt 3
You can also type email addresses instead of
names. If you're sending to multiple recipients,
separate their names by using the Enter key or
comma on your keyboard. Press Tab when you are
done entering names.
17
Sending Mail, pt 4
The Tab key moves you through the various message
fields. Enter CC and BC recipients if necessary,
a Subject, and the Body of your message.
Use the Spell Checker to find typos, and the
Send button to send your message.
18
Attaching Files
Use the paperclip button to attach files
to a message...

access your address books.

...and select a new book.

Creating Calendar Entries, pt 1
1. Click and drag to highlight a block of time
There are two types of Calendar items Posted
items appear only on your own calendar (think of
a Post-It note). Group items have multiple
invitees and appear on multiple people's
calendars. To create a Posted item on your
calendar, just click, drag and type...
2. Start typing
3. Hit to commit the entry to your
calendar

Creating Calendar Entries, pt 3
Appointments, Notes and Tasks can all be Posted
or Group in nature. For your choice of Posted
vs. Group, use the drop-down list on the toolbar
button. Choose Meeting to create a group
appointment.
26
Creating Calendar Entries, pt 4
Appointments, Tasks and Notes are very much like
mail messages. Fill in your Location and Subject,
pick a Date, Time and Duration, and type in a
message if you wish. Then click Send. In the To
field, your name appears by default. This means
you will invite yourself. You can also include
other invitees just as though you were addressing
an email.
Want to know when everyone is free? Visit the
GroupWise_at_USM website and look at How Do I...
Conduct a Busy Search to see if someone is free?
27
Creating Calendar Entries, pt 5
A new calendar item will first appear in your
mailbox (left, top). It will appear in bold,
meaning it is unread. To commit the entry to
your calendar, open the item and click the Accept
button (left, middle). You can also accept or
decline appointments by right-clicking on
them. Items appear in italics on your calendar
until they have been accepted or declined (left,
bottom).
