• when trying to locate
• certain facts or details. Skimming is one of the
  most popular strategies.

• Q. When you go to a restaurant how do you decide
  on a food choice?
• A. Like most people you probably look over the
  menu. Your eyes usually go directly to the
  pictures. After looking at the pictures you most
  likely look at the sections or sub headings on
  the menu. When you find something you like you
  then read the description. You have been using
  the skimming technique and probably didnt even
  know it.

Skimming

• Skimming is used to quickly identify the main
  ideas of a text. It is done by quickly viewing
  the text by running your eyes over the selection
  to get the main idea of the text being presented.
