  • Press the space bar or click on the mouse to
    advance slides as you read.

What is PowerPoint?
  • A computer program you can use to organize and
    present information, whether you are giving a
    sales pitch or explaining your companys goals
    and accomplishments
  • Presentation software can help to make your
    presentations effective and professional
  • You can use PowerPoint to create presentations,
    as well as notes for the presenter and handouts
    for the audience.
  • You are looking at a PowerPoint presentation.

Choosing a slide
  • When you open a blank presentation, the first
    slide is a title slide.
  • Presentations should always have a title slide.
  • After your title slide, click on the New Slide
    button on the toolbar when you are ready for a
    new one.

There are several choices of types of slides.
You can have
  • A title and one text box
  • A title and two text boxes
  • A table
  • A textbox and chart
  • An organizational chart
  • A graph
  • Textbox and ClipArt

Applying a background template
  • A background template makes your slides look
    nicer and is very easy to add
  • Click View to view the Task Pane
  • Click Slide Design Design Templates
  • You will see a sample of several different
    designs
  • Choose one you like and click it
  • You can change the color scheme, but should stick
    with one background for an entire presentation

Changing colors in the design
  • If you like the design, but dont like the color
    scheme they used
  • Click Color Schemes
  • Choose slide color scheme then custom tab
  • You now have all the colors that have been used
    choose the color you dont like by clicking on it
    then change color
  • You can choose any color combination you prefer
  • You can change colors on all slides or each
    individual slide

Adding ClipArt
  • ClipArt is just pictures that make your
    presentation look a little more lively
  • To add ClipArt
  • Click Insert ClipArt icon
  • You now see Search For
  • Type in a keyword for what type of picture you
    need
  • Click on the picture you want
  • You can click on any corner and resize your
    picture

Clips Online
  • Part of Microsoft Office is the ability to go
    online to Microsoft and get thousands of clip art
    images that are not stored on your computer
  • When you go to insert an image, go to Clips Online

Slide Master
  • If you want to make changes to all the slides at
    one time, such as to add your picture to every
    slide, or change the font on all slides
  • Go to view, master, and it will open a window
    with the Master slide
  • Any changes you make to this slide, including
    animation, will apply to every slide in your
    presentation

Hyperlinks
  • You can make hyperlinks to websites, other files
    or other slides
  • To make a hyperlink
  • Use your mouse and highlight the text or picture
    you want to become a link, click on the icon that
    looks like a globe with a paperclip

Adding pictures from Files
  • To add a picture from a file saved on your
    computer or on a disk
  • Go to Insert Picture then From File
  • Go to where the file is saved by clicking on the
    arrow beside My Pictures

Adding WordArt
  • WordArt makes your words have more shape, design
    and color
  • To get WordArt
  • Click on the WordArt icon
  • Choose the style you want by double clicking on
    it
  • Type in the words you want displayed
  • Click OK
  • You can choose different color combinations using
    the WordArt toolbar that comes up

Sizing objects
  • To resize an object whether it is a textbox,
    WordArt or picture
  • Click on the corner or side on one of the handles
    and
  • Pull it to the size you want

Changing the font, font size and font color
  • The font (design of the letters) can be changed
    to other designs
  • Use your mouse and highlight the text you want to
    change
  • Click on the arrow next to the font name on the
    formatting toolbar
  • Choose the one you want and click on it
  • To change the size after highlighting
  • Click on the arrow next to the number and change
    to a different number
  • The higher the number, the bigger your letters
    will be

  • To change the color
  • Highlight the text with your mouse
  • Click on the arrow next to the font color icon on
    the drawing toolbar and choose the color you
    would like
  • After you change it, the next time if you want
    the same color, just click on the letter, not the
    arrow

Changing the order of your slides
  • If you would like your slides to be in a
    different order
  • Click on the Slide Sorter View button
  • You can now drag slides to the position that you
    want
  • Click back to the normal view to work again

Adding animation
  • Animation makes your text boxes, pictures,
    titles, etc. come in by themselves with movement
  • To add animation
  • Right click on what you want to animate, the
    textbox, clip art, etc.
  • Choose custom animation.
  • You can now animate either on entrance, for
    emphasis or on exit.

  • Then click on the order and timing tab
  • Click on automatic and set the number of seconds
    you want between the last object and this one
    (usually 2-3 seconds is enough time, but it
    depends on if it is text or pictures)
  • If you dont set the timing, you will have to
    click on the mouse each time you want something
    to appear

  • You can also add a music track from a CD by--
  • Clicking on Insert Movies and Sound
  • Then choose cd audio track
  • Put in the number for the track you want
  • It will then ask you if you want it to play
    automatically with the slide show click Yes to
    continue
  • Now go to the custom animation screen
  • Go to multimedia effects
  • Click on play using animation order
  • Continue slide show
  • Put in the number of slides that you have in your
    show so it will stop at the end

Transitions
  • Transitions are the way a slide changes from one
    slide to the next
  • Transitions add a little more to your
    presentation
  • This is also where you can tell the computer to
    go automatically from one slide to the next
    without you clicking the mouse or touching the
    keyboard

  • To add transition to your slides
  • Go to slide show, then slide transition
  • Pick out a transition you like from the list
    (after clicking on the arrow)
  • Click automatically
  • Experiment with the number of seconds you need
    between slides you dont want it to go too fast
    or too slow this just takes practice

To add your name, date, slide number
  • Some people like to have their name, the date,
    the slide number, etc. appear on every slide
  • To do this
  • Click on view, then header and footer
  • You can choose date and time or type in specific
    text
  • You decide what info you would like to appear on
    each slide
  • A header is at the top of every page and a footer
    is at the bottom of every page

To view your presentation
  • To view a presentation
  • Click on the slide show view button
  • While viewing, in the bottom left-hand corner you
    have a pointer, you can click on pen and have a
    pen to draw on your slides as you present if this
    is helpful to you
  • If you have set the timing and transition speed,
    your presentation should go by itself from this
    point
  • If you have not set the transition and timing for
    each object, you will need to press the spacebar
    or click with the mouse to move on

Printing your slides
  • You can print out each individual slide, just an
    outline, a speakers notes page, or handouts
    pages with 2, 4, or 6 slides per page
  • Go to File, then Print
  • Then choose which option you want under the
    words, Print What
  • It kind of wastes ink to print out all of your
    slides try to avoid this when you can

Create presentations using preset wizards
  • There are some preset wizards (step-by-step
    guides) that are for various kinds of
    presentations. Some of these might be
    appropriate for you
  • Go to File, then New, then Presentations
  • You have choices for the type of presentation
  • Play with some of theseanything can be changed
    to fit your needs
