The church shapes politics and society
  • The clergy were very influential in medieval
European culture and politics. For many people in
the European middle ages , life revolved around
the local church. Religious ceremonies like
baptisms and weddings were key events in peoples
lives. When people traveled, they only went to
religious places, this made them pilgrims.

5
Monks and Friars
  • Monks-lived away from people.
  • Friars- lived with common people.
  • Religious order-group of people who give there
  • Lives to religion and follow the everyday rules.
  • Living apart from society-they basically decided
if it was better to serve there god with people
    or away from people.

philosophy, and medicine. Thomas developed a
philosophical system, called natural law to show
how god had worked the world.

Magna carta caused changes in England
  • By beckka prewitt

12
Magna carta is,
  • The great charter

13
Magna carta
  • The magna carta was an agreement between the
towns people and the king, that said any law the
king made, he had to follow just as the towns
    people had to.

14
Who demanded this agreement???????????
  • The towns people
  • demanded that the
  • king sign it, they said
  • if he didnt sign it then
  • they would rebel
  • against him.

15
Effects of the magna carta
  • By beckka prewitt

16
The effects
  • The magna cartas effects where, that the king HAD
to obey every law he hade made. Among these
rights, where habeas corpus which means, you have
the body. The right of this, is that the king
cannot put a citizen in jail for no reason.

17
3 important demands of the magna carta
  • 1.no man shall be forced to perform more service
for a knights fee, or other free holding of land
    than is due from it.
  • 2. Neither we nor any royal official will take
wood for our castle, or for any other purpose,
without the consent of the owner.
  • 3 in future no official shall place a man on
trial upon his own unsupported statement ,
without producing credible witness to the truth
    of it.

18
Changes after the magna carta
  • English found the magna carta a good way to limit
    the kings power.
  • A council of nobles made to advise the king
  • They soon deloloped the parliament,

19
How did the king limit the magna carta
  • Tried to use judges. Try to choose judges that
would always pick his side. Ones that would only
benefit him NOT the towns people.

20
3 democratic principles in mr.fraziers 3rd period
  • 1. every student gets there own laptop
  • 2. every student gets a daily soda
  • 3. every student gets gum from Meghan postelnick
  • These are good democratic laws because,
democratic is for the people by the people. These
are good for the people, and made by the people.

The hundred years war
  • The invasion began a long lasting conflict
between England and France that came to be called
the 100 years war. The war, didnt actually last
100 years, it actually lasted 116 years.

24
Hundred year war.
  • After mc it changed England. The king dyed in
France, no children. So he had 2 3rd cousins. In
on each side. War fir 116 years.
  • Then Joan of art, girl. Led the army, one several
wars. Got caught, penalty, burned alive.
  • If English won, democracy would have spread to
    France,
  • Cousin on dads side, claims the throne.

25
They demanded he signed it.
26
The course of the war,
  • Political change occurred in France. In 1328 the
king of France died. He had no heirs,( sons or
daughters ) but he had 2 third cousins, one on
his moms side, and one on his dads side. Philip
of France, and the king of England. At first the
English where winning most of the battles. Then
the French won when a peasant girl named Joan of
arc railed the troupes together and won. She was
disguised as a man, so that went against their
religion. So they burned her alive.

27
Results of the war,
  • It changed the governments of both England and
France. In England parliaments power grew because
the king needed its approval to raise money for
the expensive war. Although in France, the kings
power also grew. During this war, the king became
very popular to his nobles. Fighting the English
    made a bond between them.

28
Black Death
  • By beckka prewitt

29
Where it came from
  • The black death came from rats. When flees bit a
human it gave then the disease called bubonic
plague. These rats have been in the disgusting
parts of the town. And when flees bit a rat, it
didnt hurt the flee, but if that flee bit a
    human it would kill them.

2/3 of the population. It lasted from 1347 to

  • It killed almost 25 million people.

32
What happened to it?
  • The bubonic plague still exists today. There is
