Presentation Outlines I Supply II Management III
Demand IV Conclusions V Proposals
3
  • I Supply Fluvial Ecosystems
  • Short, plentiful and few contaminated rivers,
    with a wide hydrographic network.
  • Scarce ichthyologic species variety but with the
presence of especies with high sportive interest
    (Salmon, Trout, Sea trout...)
  • Outstanding salmon catches volume (90 of spanish
    salmon catches)
  • Environmental problems due to the presence of
power plants without ladder and pollution in
    industrial and urban areas

4
  • I Supply Fluvial ecosystems (Conclusions)
  • Asturias has the best salmon rivers of south
    Europe
  • Catches are going down slowly
  • Quality water is better than ten years ago
  • The river forest is more than artificial channels
  • We are controling our natural stocks (Salmon and
    trout)
  • Our rivers will have a good future (I hope ??)

5
  • II Management
  • In Asturias we have only public waters, so
Regional Goverment has the management of all
    fishing areas (Since 1984)
  • The Environmental Regional Service sells licences
and tickets for fishing areas and provides
    fishing and hunting guards
  • The Environmental Regional Service controls all
the natural and artificial salmonids stocks and
    the fluvial ecosystem

6
  • II Management Waters Classification
  • You need a regional licence for fishing in
Asturias continental waters (14 /year for
    salmon)
  • You need a day ticket for Restricted Waters (From
6 to 35/ day) and licence too
  • Two areas in our waters
  • 1- Forbbiden Waters (where fishing is not
permitted) are 10 of our continental waters)
  • 2- Fishing Areas Free Waters (licence) and
    Restricted Waters (licence day ticket)

7
  • II Management Fishing areas
  • Free waters Trout, salmon and mountain areas,
with non kill areas ( 80 of our waters) Without
limited access but limited catches, licence it is
    only necessary.
  • Restricted Waters Salmon and sea trout (Regular
and Non Kill) and Trout (Regular, Non Kill and
Fisheries). Limited acess, and catches, for a
specific number of fishers and permits per year,
you need your licence and ticket.

8
  • II Management Restricted Fishing areas
  • Salmon areas
  • 61 areas and 183 rods/day (20.679 tickets/year)
  • Trout areas
  • 48 areas and 271 rods/day (45.548 tickets/year))
  • Catch and release 19 areas and 89 rods/day
    (17.988 tickets/year)
  • Regular 27 areas and 122 rods/day (15.860
    tickets/year)
  • Intensive 2 areas and 60 rods/day (11.700
    tickets/year)
  • Sea trout areas
  • 61 areas and 183 rods/day (4.941 tickets year)
  • 71.168 tickets/year for angling

9
  • III Demand Sportfishermen
  • We need to draw for the ticketsto have chance of
fishing in restricted areas because demand is
bigger than supply (is increasing). The winner
    will take the first ticket
  • Salmon - Each angler has only two/three (one good
and two quite good) tickets for salmon restricted
    areas/ season
  • Trout - Each angler has only two tickets for
    trout restricted areas/ season
  • Sea Trout - Each angler has only one ticket for
    sea trout restricted areas/ season

10
  • IV Conclusions
  • Supply and demand are not very controlled. We do
not know number of fishers angling in the rivers.
  • It is requiered to restructure the management
model to control fishing acesses in all areas.
  • It is necessary to reorganize water areas
creating controlled fishing areas (Restricted and
    Free Waters)
  • There is no balance betwen free waters (80) and
    restricted waters (10)
  • Weve some problems with our natural salmon and
trout natural stoks (Naturlas spooning areas are
    going down)

11
  • V Proposals
  • We need to create controled fishing areas in all
our continental waters, because we need to know
which is number of anglers if we want to have a
good management (To know-To think-To make)
  • We need to change the size and the drawing rules
    for restricted areas
  • We need to have quality waters and fishes for
    everybody (not only anglers)
  • THE BEST PROTECTION IS TO DEVELOP THE RESOURCE
