Biomes Around the World
  • By Toni Barisic

2
The End
  • Thank you for watching my facts !about biomes !

3
What is a Biome?
  • A biome is a type of place around the world that
changes between its habitat including plants,
animals, and the climate its in.
  • There are biomes at any place you go to, even
    were you are right know.

4
Types of Biomes
  • There are many types of biomes around the world.
  • Desert
  • Coniferous Forest
  • Tropical Rainforest
  • Arctic Tundra
  • Grassland
  • Deciduos Forest

5
Desert
  • The dessert has a very hot climate reaching at
least 30 degrees, and is very dry with very
little amount of lakes and rivers. The desert has
hardly any life, some dont even have any animals
at all. The only types of plants that you can
find in a desert are cacti, these plants are
green with many towering arms building up. A
cactus is very spiky and contains water inside it
which is how it survives in such a hot place.
The desert is found in every single continent
without including Europe. There are two types of
deserts there are hot deserts and cold deserts.
Deserts dont really have to be hot and dry, but
they can actually be a vast wasteland with no
plants or animals. There are very well known
deserts out there including the great basin which
is located in the United States covering Nevada
and other places. The desert itself includes
special features, it is known for the hotness and
dryness that is involved in the desert, and also
because of the interesting animals that live
there vultures and other scavengers to camels and
    reptiles like lizards.

6
Arctic Tundra
  • The arctic tundra is the coldest biome in the
entire world and is well know from the polar bear
and penguins that live in these places. These
region is located in many northern countries and
continents including the northern parts of
Europe, Asia, North America, and Greenland. You
can also see this biome in higher place like
mountains or very high hills. The arctic tundra
is a place with very little trees and some areas
without any at all.In the winter the temperature
can decrease to a total of -30 degrees! Wow! I
can guess why they cal this biome the coldest in
    the world.
  • The arctic tundra can grow a permanent frozen
subsoil called permafrost. Its is easy to find
them on top of high and cold mountains. Some
special features include the beautiful flowers
that bloom in early Autumn and the top soil that
melts causing mini pools for birds to swim in.

7
Grassland
  • The grassland is a warm biome were many farms can
be produced after the fine weather there is.This
biome is very dry from all the heat. Unlike its
original name, the grassland has names such as
Prairie in the US and Havana in many hot tropical
places including the South American countries.
You might of guessed that this biome has
something to do with grass, and in fact it does.
The grassland is a place filled with grass in
vast open areas, with no trees., The reason why
this biome does not have any trees is because
this place is very dry and is subjective to be a
very warm place-trees dont grow in hot places.
Very few animals live in this biome. Even though
there are a couple wolves and bison, there are
still many hunters out there slowly killing them.
There are still some deer and prairie dogs out
there. In Africa they have plenty of zebras and
giraffes while in north America they have prairie
    dogs.

8
Coniferous Forest
  • The coniferous forest is a modern forest that
people live in in the southern parts of Canada.
The coniferous forest was named by the tree
itself, the coniferous. The reason why they call
it by the coniferous tree is obviously because
they have thousands of them all over these
regions. The area this is located in stretches
all the way from Alaska, across the Atlantic
ocean, through the northern parts of Eurasia and
lastly crossing the tip of the pacific ocean to
Alaska again. Our worlds paper comes from the
coniferous forest from the softwood timber.
Another word that they call coniferous forest is
more understandable , they cal it the Taiga. Many
trees in the Taiga are able to last the cold
winters, they include to Fir, Spruce, and the
Hemlock. The reason why is because these trees
save water and are not the types of leaves they
are that you would find, they are needles, I call
them pine needles because it would mix me up with
the tool needle instead of the tree needle.

9
Deciduous Forest
  • The deciduous forest is a mild temperature zone
because it is located near the equator in many
parts of Europe, Asia, North America, and Minimal
parts of Oceanic region. The deciduous forest
includes many neat plants and some that you can
find wherever you go. Other than the Coniferous,
these trees have leaves, not any special type
like needles. This means that the leaves die out
in Autumn and fall down causing reproduction.
This also means that the leaves do not store any
water which is the main point of how they die.
Like I said you can surely find it anywhere
because these trees include the Maple tree, Oak,
Willow, and the Ash. There are also fruits
growing in these places because after all this is
a mild temperature zone causing berries apples
and vegetables to grow like carrots celery and
turnips. The soil is so fresh and fertile that
people are destroying tries to build farms and
homes for them to plant and sell there fruits and
vegetables. There are lot of animals including
raccoons, deer, wolves, bears, and foxes.

10
Rain Forest
  • A Rain Forestis the warmest and most moisture
filled biome. The exotic birds and other animals
that live there make this biome to be very
popular. This biome is located in the central
area of the earth near the equater. Some
continents it is in includes, Africa, South
America, Southern areas of North America and The
oceanic region including Indonesia and Malaysia.
The main location where rain forests are found in
Brazil in the famouse forest called the amazon.
This biome is also located on the pacific islands
including Hawaii in Asia. Half of the worlds
rainforet is in Brazil. The rain forest gets at
least 70 inches of rain every year. That is how it
basically got its name. There are three sections
in the rain forest, The canopy is the tallest
level with trees that reach 100 to 200 hudred
feet in the sky and of course with lots of sun
and light. Next comes the understory which is the
medium layer of the forest, they have vines and
lots of animals in the trees. The last layer is
the forest floor, where mosses mushrooms and
herbs grow at, there is very few light.
