Kathmandu Valley is prone to earthquake due to
its geophysical formation. Bhaktapur (one
municipality within the valley), a world heritage
site listed by UNESCO, has magnify the
vulnerability of the city from earthquake risk by
its rapid urbanisation, ageing of the city and
its compact settlement planning.
Therefore, urban risk management is an essential
measure for preparedness and to mitigate the
impact of possible disaster.
