Ghana
The officially the Republic of Ghana, is a
country in West Africa. The borders Burkina
Faso to the north Togo to he east Atlantic
Ocean to the south. Accra is the capital and
largest city. It was inhabited in pre-colonial
times by a number of ancient kingdoms. Ghana is
located on the Gulf of Guinea, only a few degrees
north of the Equator. It is roughly the size of
the state of Britain.

The Ashantis head, know as the Asantehene, is
the most important individual in the central part
of the country. Like other Ghanaian heads, he
wears shine Kente, gold bracelets, rings and
amulets, and is always accompanied by numerous
ornament umbrellas. The most important think of
the Ashanti people is the golden stool, a small
golden throne in which reside the spirit of the
people.

  • A large part of Ghana's flora has been destroyed.
    In the tropical rainforests of the south there is
    still a large number of kapok trees and khayas.
    The north of the country is covered by grassland
    with sparse trees.
  • The Volta is a river in central and western
    Africa that drains into the Gulf of Guinea. It is
    divided into the Black Volta, the White Volta and
    the Red Volta.
  • In the north there is savannah, which is drained
    by the Black and the White Volta. Both rivers
    meet and become the Volta, which flows south
    between the two hilly areas towards the sea.
