Are you fit to fly?
  • Before any Flight, ask yourself Am I Fit?
  • Am I well Rested?
  • Fatigue/get-home-itis/Go Fever Dont be a
    victim!
  • Do I have an Illness? If so, dont fly!
  • What Pharmaceuticals am I taking?
  • Drug Interaction could impair flying ability
  • Some Drugs are Prohibited by the FAA
  • Have you eaten well?
  • At least 8 Hours bottle to throttle and NO
    Hangovers!
  • Do you have a physical injury or emotional
    condition that will restrict your flying ability?

Is your Aircraft Fit?
  • AROW Is all required documentation in the
    aircraft?
  • Make sure the AC airworthiness certificate is
    displayed.
  • Check for the current registration.
  • Make sure you have the Aircraft POH on board with
    current weight and balance data.
  • Make sure that the aircraft is not coming due for
    maintenance. Cross-reference the hobbs and tach
    time to the documentation on the front of the
    aircraft book.
  • Check for squawks.
  • Dont let a minor problem, have major impact.
  • Do a thorough preflight with the checklists
    Dont Strap-In and Go!

Before you take-off
  • Get a good weather brief.
  • Check for NOTAMS, PIREPS, and AIRMETS.
  • Dont forget Local NOTAMS and TFRs.
  • Plan your flight.
  • File a flight plan.
  • Brief your crew.
  • Exercise Good ORM!

In the aircraft
  • Use crew resource management.
  • Follow the Checklists!
  • Use sterile cockpit procedures.
  • Open your flight plan.
  • Scan for traffic, obstructions and birds!
  • Lights on during take-off, landing and limited
    visibility.
  • Dont forget to monitor the engine instruments.

After Landing
  • Use the checklists to shut down and secure the
    Aircraft.
  • Close your flight plan.
  • Log your flight time and inform your FRO that you
    have safely completed your flight.
  • Do a COMPLETE walk-around of the aircraft and
    clean as necessary.
  • Note any problems and inform the aircraft POC
    immediately!

Other Items of Note
  • Make sure any incident is documented in
    accordance with CAPR 62-2 and ILWG Supplement to
    CAPR 62-2.
  • Its better to admit an incident than to have it
    found out later.
  • POCs must make sure that all regulations and
    supplements are current in the aircraft book.
