by the very nature of its content, has the
potential to affect how a person will feel every
moment of every day for the rest of his or her

WHY the Focus on Physical Education?
  • number overweight children has more than doubled
    in the past 20 years
  • number of overweight adolescents has tripled

Why the Focus on Physical Education?
  • U.S. Surgeon General has identified OBESITY as
    the greatest health problem of the 21st Century
  • 1 out of 3 children born in 2000 will develop
    diabetes in their lifetime

Hazards of Obesity

  • Eat food
  • Increases glucose in the blood
  • Need insulin to grab hold of the glucose to be
    used as energy

Too much sugar
  • The glucose stays in the blood because the body
    cannot produce enough insulin to collect it
  • Sugar in the blood causes poor circulation that
    damages kidneys, nerves, eyes heart

  • Cheap to produce
