Introduction
  • The Referees Workbook!
  • The concept of this Workbook is that all your
    2004 training sessions are set up inside these
    pages and you will be able to record all results
    from work shops and notes as you go. You will
    also be able to record your own game analysis and
    comments from coaches, using the Match Analysis
    section in this Workbook.
  • We hope that this Workbook gives you the
    opportunity to more accurately and more
    consistently record information, which will
    enable you to develop patterns in your own
    refereeing, retain learning outcomes from
    sessions you attend and work better with your
    coaches.

The Tackle Law - Taking the Next Step

Using Your Captains
  • The Six Golden Rules of the Referee / Captain
    Relationship
  • 1. The Captain must be the funnel for all
    decisions made on off the field.
  • 2. The Captain must be advised of all cautions,
    sin bins and send offs.
  • 3. The referee has a responsibility to clearly
    communicate all decisions to the captain - who
    has the sole right to question a decision -
    within reason!
  • 4. The captain has the responsibility of
    controlling the behaviour of his players at all
    times.
  • 5. The referee should always set the ground rules
    with the captains before the game.
  • 6. The referee, touch judges, and the two
    captains are the Management Team.

Managing the Lineout
  • Role Play
  • You have been asked to attend a Club Training
    night, at one of the clubs that you have on the
    weekend, as they are very concerned with the
    lineout phase over the last few weeks. The
    coachs concerns are

    are bemused by the penalties they are giving away

SMARTER Goal Setting
  • We need to centre our attention on achieving our
    expectations, by setting step by
  • step, short term and attainable goals. They must
    be performance related,
  • enabling us to increase performance and therefore
    carry us closer to our outcome
  • goals. Performance related goals can be anything
    related to our role in the game.
  • We need to start by measuring our current level
    of performance, in order to
  • establish where we need to most improve. Circle
    the number between 1 and 10,
  • that best represents how well you are performing
    at that area of your role
