Municipal area of Ravenna
Superficie 654,88 kmq Population
149.084 inhabitants Geographical
localization The municipal area of Ravenna is
located in the Emilia-Romagna, region of Northern
Italy, and spreads over a large area (it is the
second largest municipal area after Rome).
3
Natural Areas
Ravenna is made up of some of the most beautiful
natural areas of the Po Delta Park characterized
from the presence of an extraordinary variety of
landscapes and natural habitats which derive from
the interaction between the natural evolutionary
processes of the territory and the anthropic
activities. Extension of the protected areas
about 19.000 hectares.
There are numerous animals and plants species,
many of which are protected by international and
national regulations, but the biggest wealth
comes from the avifauna. There are 234 species
birds the large variety of species is due to the
elevated bio-diversity of the area. Many
different types of habitats can be found which
leads to many possibilities for nesting and
feeding.
4
The port and the productive activities
The city is inland, but is connected to the
Adriatic Sea by a canal harbour. The port, with
more than 24 million tons handled every year, is
one of the most important in Italy and matches
trading and industrial vocation. The port houses
industries including chemicals, energy,
metallurgy, agricultural foodstuffs and offshore.
5
Ravenna, Mosaic Capital
  • Ravenna is one of the most singular and rich
cities from an historical and artistic point of
    view.
  • Capital of the barbarian kingdoms and the
Byzantine empire, protagonist of European history
between the fifth and sixth centuries, the city
was enhanced by the construction of some of
    Italys most extraordinary monuments.

The city houses an amazing collection of
basilicas, baptisteries and mausoleums with
enchanting mosaic artworks. Eight of its
monuments have been declared by UNESCO as
patrimonies of humanities for their supreme
display of mosaic work San Vitale, Mausoleo di
Galla Placidia, Battistero Neoniano,
SantApollinare Nuovo and Santapollinare in
Classe, Battistero degli Ariani, Cappella
Arcivescovile, and the Mausoleo di Teodorico.

Functions of the Municipality of Ravenna
  • The municipality of Ravenna is a local public
    authority.
  • It carries out all the administrative functions
regarding the population and the territory. In
particular the organic fields of the welfare, the
economic development, the structure and use of
territory, in the ways established by the
    national and regional laws.
  • The organizational model of Ravenna local
authority previews the articulation in 8 Business
Units. The Business Unit 6 Territorial Planning
    includes the Environmental Department that
takes care of the environmental protection and
improvement of the life quality in the city.

7
Energy Plan
  • Seen the petroleum cost always growing and the so
distant Kyoto aims, among the principal activities
of the environmental departement, there is the
developing of the Energy Plan in order to reduce
    the energy consumption,
  • The Energy Plan is based on
  • Study of the main features of the present local
    energetic system
  • Definition of the main goals and strategic
guidelines in order to achieve a local
    sustainable energy system
  • Individuation of actions and politics in order to
  • increase the efficiency of the energy system
  • promote the renewable energy sources
  • decrease the impact of the energy consumptions

8
LOCAL ENERGETIC SYSTEM
9
Main trends under way
  • Energy consumption increasing in all sectors
  • Productive sector ? 75.6
  • Tertiary sector ? 21
  • Residential sector ? 8.4
  • Transport sector ? 2.6

Its necessary to invert these trends
10
Public building sector
  • Main actions promoted
  • Energy audits of the schools
  • Boilers substitution
  • Structural operation, such as windows
    substitution, roof rebuilding,
  • Recourse to district heat network in the new
    projects and where possible
  • Photovoltaic pannels installation in school
    buildings
  • Others future actions
  • To complete the energy audits in all the
    buildings
  • Educational programs direct to building users in
order to promote an efficient usage of the
    building
  • Larger recourse to Renewable Energy Sources
    technologies

THE RESIDENTIAL SECTOR 93 OF THE PRIVATE

TRANSFORMATION TO GPL OR METHANE OF THEIR CARS
OR SUBSTITUTION OF A NON-CATALYTIC CONVERTER CAR
    WITH A LOW IMPACT VEHICLE

    IMPACT COMMERCIAL VEHICLES
  • PURCHASE OF LOW IMPACT VEHICLES FOR THE LOCAL
    GOVERNMENT
  • INCREASING OF THE CYCLE TRACKS AND OF PUBLIC
    TRANSPORT OFFER

14
What can the Municipality of Ravenna do ?
  • We will have to do, in the next future, an
important, complex but necessary work to invert
the trend we have seen before. With this aim we
fully share the MUSEC project strategy, based on
  • Organic energy policies (actions of the local
    authorities, adequate town planning and
regulation, increas of renewable energy sources,
    ecc.)
  • Innovative Financing mechanisms
  • Communication programs
  • I am sure that the integration between Ravenna
energy plan and MUSEC project will bring concrete
    and positive results.
