Early Childhood
  • Jews persecuted (could not own land, only go to
    certain schools, could only live in certain
    places in Russia)
  • Had low or no paying jobs
  • There were planned riots against the Jews (houses
    were burned and destroyed) these were called
    pogroms
  • Her father went to America without family and
    sold almost everything to get enough money, then
    sent family later
  • In 4th grade, Golda started a group called
    American Young Sisters Society

Middle childhood/Early Adult Life
  • In high school, joined the Zionist Group Poalei
    Zion( workers of Zion)
  • Married Morris Myerson
  • Settled in Kibbutz, Merhavya
  • Moved to Tel Aviv, Israel in 1924
  • Became a teacher in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • When 11 Golda Meir made speeches

  • Golda Meirs father was a carpenter
  • Grandfather was forced to turn to other religion,
    but refused and ate only Kosher food
  • Great grandmother Bube Golde poured salt into
    her tea to remind her of the bitterness of being
    away from home
  • Out of 8 children in Golda Meirs family, 3
    lived, they were cold, hungry, and there was not
    enough clothing
