- This is my 13th year teaching.
- St. John Fisher - B.A.
- University of Salamanca, Spain
- -semester abroad
- SUNY Brockport - M.A.
3High School Requirements
- All students in Spanish 2
- earned credit for Spanish 1 last year by meeting
- success on the Proficiency Exam.
- should plan to take level 3 and the Regents
exam to complete a Regents sequence.
4 Organization
- 1 to 2 inch three ring binder with 8 dividers.
- It is important to keep an organized binder. It
will serve as a textbook for the next two years. - Being organized and prepared will help students
contribute positively to class. - See the sample binder by the student mail boxes!
5 Homework(Tarea)
- Homework is awarded 2-4 points and will not be
accepted late. - Students should set a regular plan for
independent study of vocabulary and grammar
concepts even when an assessment is not
announced.
6 Absences
- If absent, students will have (about 3 days) two
advisement periods and one class to make up the
missed work. - Please refer to my website for missed classes.
- Missing class for extracurricular activities does
not count as an absence, nor does it give extra
time to complete work due for next class or hand
work in work due in most cases.
7 Scores
- Student scores are weighted in three categories
- Speaking 10, Practice 20, Assessments 70.
- Students are required to complete 50
frases(sentences in Spanish) in class for each
of the 4 quarters to help them to prepare for the
speaking portion of the local level 2 and level 3
Regents exams. Most students comfortably meet
this requirement. - There are no make-up assessments.
- There is a local final exam in Spanish 2 that
counts as 1/5 of the final average. The Regents
exam stands alone as a score. - Infinite Campus will be updated regularly. Please
check for scores and missing work regularly.
8 No comprendes? Dont understand?
- Please make an appointment with me during
advisement or after school.
9Spanish 3There are 4 quarters. Students need a
65 to pass the year. They also need a 65 on
the Regents exam.30 points reading 16 points
writing30 points listening24 points
speakingMost state colleges accept an 85 on
the Regents and a completed level 4 or 5 course
for credit. Levels 4 and 5 lead to the AP or
CLEP exam.

11Suggestions on How to Study- Do Something!
Dont just stare at a piece of paper!
- Make flashcards and use them.
- Do a fold over.
- Repeat words out loud with a friend, a parent, or
yourself. - Write words over, and over, and over again.
- Make a puzzle online or on your own paper.
- Quiz a friend. Quiz yourself.
