AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS (AED)
  • AEDs are helpful in the event of Sudden Cardiac
    Arrest.
  • The earlier a heart arrhythmia is corrected, the
    better the outcome for a victim

AED Responder Team - Hanscom
  • Currently, Eileen Dirrane is the only AED
    Responder until other staff members CPR
    certification status are verified and have
    undergone necessary training to serve the team.

AED Cabinet - Alarm
  • The AED cabinets are alarmed - A very piercing
    alarm will be initiated if/when a cabinet door is
    opened.
  • There is a key for disabling the alarm taped on
    the top left of the cabinet.
  • There is an extra key in the Nurses office,
    labeled and tacked on the bulletin board.
  • To disable the alarm, insert the key in the
    keyhole on the upper left of the cabinet and turn
    the key to the 1200 position.

AED Cabinet
  • Only members of the AED Response Team should open
    the door to access the AED kit.
  • Exception If a team member didnt want to leave
    a scene and instructed another adult or student
    to get a defibrillator from the nearest cabinet.
  • If an alarm should sound, any nearby available
    adult should go to the cabinet and ascertain what
    is happening (e.g. student tampering or real
    event in which the AED kit has been grabbed by a
    responder) and, if appropriate, disarm the alarm.

Procedure for Calling the AED Response Team
  • If you see a child or an adult collapse in the
    school building, call the school office and ask
    for the AED Response Team to come to your
    specific location.

  • Lincoln Schools School Nurse (if not at scene) at
    ext. 2112 OR overhead page OR Walkie-Talkie
  • Office staff person will do an ALL-CALL for the
    AED Response Team to (location)
  • Stay with the victim. Ask another staff member to
    remove students from the area.
  • Office staff person calls 911 using the
    Emergency Telephone Procedure

Emergency Telephone Procedure
  • Dial 911 (use land line if possible)
  • State who you are I am _________, a
    teacher/secretary/staff member at the
    _____________ School.
  • State where you are. (e.g. Middle School gym)
  • State what is wrong with the student or staff
    member.
  • Give specific directions (e.g., which school
    entrance should be used, exact location of
    child).
  • Dont hang up the phone. Answer any questions
    asked by dispatcher. Hang up only when all
    information has been received and is correctly
    repeated to you.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Call parent(s) and other necessary individuals.
  • Designate an adult to accompany any student who
    requires transport by ambulance.
