EYE WASH FOUNTAIN
  • Should any chemical splash in your eyes,
    immediately use a continuous flow of running
    water to flush your eyes for a period of at least
    20 minutes.

CHEMICAL SHOWER
  • If corrosive chemicals should contact your
    exposed skin, wash the affected areas with
    flowing water for as long as needed to remove the
    corrosive chemical.

FIRE SAFETY
  • If hair or clothing should catch fire, DO NOT
    RUN. Drop to the floor and roll slowly to smother
    the flame. Use a fire blanket and wrap it around
    the victim.

FIRST AID KIT
  • Use the first aid kit provided for cuts, and
    other minor accidents when needed.Ask the teacher
    first for needed first aid supplies.

HEATING SOLUTIONS
  • When heating a flammable liquid, use a hot
    plate not a flame. Check to make sure the
    glassware is not cracked or chipped before
    heating the solution.

USING A BUNSEN BURNER
  • Make sure the rubber hose is attached firmly
    to the gas valve. Use a striker after turning on
    the gas valve to light. Adjust the heighth of the
    flame with the needle valve. Pin back long hair,
    and roll up loose sleeves.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER
  • Point the hose of the extinguisher at the
    base of the flame. Pull the pin out of the lever,
    push down, and spray on the flames to extinguish.

BROKEN GLASS
  • Dispose of any broken glass in the designated
    container. Do not handle broken glass. Sweep up,
    and wash hands if you handled it.

SAFETY GOGGLES
  • Always wear your safety goggles when working
    with any chemicals or equipment.

EMERGENCY CALL BUTTON
  • In case of an accident or medical emergency, push
    the call button and ask the office to dial 911 if
    needed.
  • Use the first aid kit, if needed, until help
    arrives.

ACID DILUTION
  • If diluting an acid, always pour the acid slowly
    into water with stirring to dissipate the heat
    generated.
  • Remember AAA -
  • ALWAYS ADD ACID to water!

HEATING LIQUIDS IN A TEST TUBE
  • When heating a liquid in a test tube, turn the
    mouth of the test tube away from yourself and
    others.

CHEMICAL SAFETY
  • Read the label on a reagent bottle carefully
    before using the chemical.
  • After removing the chemical from the bottle,
    check to make sure that it is the correct
    chemical for that procedure.

  • before proceeding
  • with the first part.

  • safety tips and directions
  • exactly as written.

PROPER CHEMICAL TRANSFER
  • To avoid contamination,
  • do not return unused
  • chemicals to a reagent
  • bottle. Never put a
  • pipet, dropper, or
  • spatula into a reagent
  • bottle. Pour in a beaker
  • and use as your supply.

LAB RULES FOR HYGIENE
  • DO NOT CHEW GUM, EAT OR DRINK IN THE LAB AREA OR
    CLASSROOM.
  • NEVER TASTE ANY CHEMICALS!

LAB CLEAN UP
  • Wash your hands with soap and water at the end of
    each laboratory.
  • Keep your hands away from your face when working
    with chemicals.
