Title I of No Child Left Behind
  • Schools with high concentrations of children from
low-income families receive Title I money, which
is most of the federal K-12 education funds.
  • This program along with other federal and state
programs challenge us to close the achievement
gap. The achievement gap is the difference in
performance between groups of students defined by
race, ethnicity, migrant status, limited English
    proficiency, and family income.

4
Title I Funds are Supplemental
  • Federal dollars should not supplant state and
local fund sources. Federal dollars cant be
    used to meet State requirements.
  • Example State requires a teacher/student ratio
of 22 to 1. Federal dollars cant be used to
meet this requirement but they could be used to
further reduce class size. (From 22/1 to 18/1)

5
Campus Improvement Plan
  • Districts must conduct a Comprehensive Needs
    Assessment.
  • Program schedules in the Consolidated Application
for Federal funds should be checked in order to
be sure that program requirements are met.
  • The CIP will outline how the district is going to
meet the identified needs and fulfill program
    requirements.
  • The CIP will prevent fragmentation and
    duplication of program activities.
  • Fund sources should be referenced in the resource
    column of the CIP.

6
Parent Involvement
  • Parents must be informed regarding their childs
eligibility and how the different programs are
working together in order to meet the needs of
    their child.
  • Parents must have an opportunity to make
    suggestions and recommend improvements.

7
Information and Resources
  • Parents must be informed about the Title I
program at their school. (This includes NCLB
    Report Card Information.)
