Online Literature Circles
A reading and Technology integration project

What does a literature circle look like?

• Small mixed-ability groups
• Meets once a week, specific day
• Students lead the discussion
• Conversation open to discuss novel
• Each student has an assigned task
• Teacher as facilitator

Getting Started

• Find a host site (ex Haiku, Moodle)
• Set up a literature circle online, including all
  forms for easy student access
• Give students their username and password
• Walk them through the steps to logging on and
  posting
• Go over expectations for posting

Expectations for Online Literature Circles

• Respond to the assigned novel by posting the
  response to your assigned task (if you are the
  Artsy Artist you will need to scan your document)
• Respond to each persons post in your literature
  group following our class response guidelines
  (ex I agree with your thoughts about.., but .)
• Place all paper documents in your Communication
  Arts Binder for safe keeping.

Teacher as Facilitator

• Class is evenly divided into small groups
• Each student should have all novel forms in their
  communication Arts binder
• Teacher meets with literature groups once a week,
  prescheduled to discuss novel and assigned tasks.
