Performance Assurance Activities
  • LAT Mission Assurance Requirements (MAR) Status
  • LAT MAR dated October 26, 2000 is still currently
    the baseline MAR
  • Phase C/D/E MAR (revised MAR) in negotiation
  • Primary changes involve Chapter 4, Design
Verification and the addition of flight software
    deliverables
  • LAT EEE Parts, Materials and Processes Issues
  • LAT EEE Parts and Materials and Processes Lists
will be submitted to GSFC middle of April
  • Any additional submissions to these lists must be
provided to Jeff Tice (materials) or Nick Virmani
    (EEE parts)
  • All fasteners must comply with the procurement
documentation and test requirements for flight
hardware and critical ground support equipment
    fasteners contained in 541-PG-8072.1.2, GSFC
    Fastener Integrity Requirements
  • EEE parts must have parts stress analyses
performed (MAR par. 8.2.2) for conformance with
    the applicable derating guidelines

3
Performance Assurance Activities (Cont.)
  • Procurement quality assurance
  • Quality Clauses are required in all flight
    hardware contracts and requisitions
  • Ensure that appropriate quality requirements are
included in all procurements of flight
    hardware/software and critical GSE
  • All flight hardware shall have a receiving
    inspection
  • Assure all required traceability documentation
    accompanies hardware
  • Assure proper storage and control of flight
    hardware
  • Enable detection of hardware discrepancies
  • Only qualified providers are utilized for
products and services that will be used for
    flight hardware
  • QA shall perform supplier, partner, and
    subcontractor surveys when necessary

4
Verification Planning
  • LAT Program Instrument Performance Verification
    Plan, LAT-MD-00408, Systems Performance Assurance
(Section 6), delineates the processes and
procedures for verification and test of LAT
    hardware and software
  • Required Documentation
  • Configuration Management
  • Configuration Item Tracking
  • Quality Assurance Provisions
  • Safety
  • Test Equipment
  • Test Performance Requirements

5
Verification Test Planning (Cont.)
  • Systems Engineering shall assure that all flight
    hardware/software requirements are identified and
    adequately flowed down and tested
  • A test matrix is generated which relates all
    explicit and derived hardware/software
requirements to the specific test phase/method
    which will validate it
  • Subsystems managers are responsible for subsystem
    verification and test procedure matrix
  • ? Test procedures must be developed for each test
    activity
  • System Engineering is responsible for instrument
    test and procedure matrix
  • ? IT is responsible for developing instrument
    level test procedures
  • Quality Assurance/Systems Engineering shall
verify the traceability matrix is complete and
    accurate

Verification Testing Deliverables
  • Title Performance Verification Procedure
  • CDRL No. 331
  • Reference MAR Section 4.2.2
  • Use Describes how each test activity defined in
the Verification Plan will be implemented
  • Place/Time/Purpose of Delivery
  • 15 work days prior to the start of the testing
    for GSFC approval.
  • LAT Instrument Thermal Vacuum Balance Test Plan-
    90 days prior to testing
  • Preparation Information
  • Describe the configuration of the tested item and
    the step-by-step functional and environmental
test activity conducted at the unit/component,
    subsystem/instrument, and payload levels. Give
    details such as instrumentation monitoring,
    facility control sequences, test article
    functions, test parameters, quality control
    checkpoints, pass/fail criteria, data collection
and reporting requirements. Address safety and
    contamination control provisions. A methodology
will be provided for controlling, documenting and
approving all activities not part of an approved
procedure and establish controls for preventing
accidents that could cause personal injury or
    damage to hardware and facilities.

8
Verification Testing Deliverable (Cont)
  • Title Verification Reports
  • CDRL No. 332
  • Reference MAR Section 4.2.3
  • Use Summarize compliance with system
    specification requirements and/or provide a
summary of testing and analysis results,
    including conformance, nonconformance, and trend
    data.
  • Place/Time/Purpose of Delivery
  • Verification Reports Preliminary - 5 work
days after testing for GSFC information Final -
30 days after verification activity for GSFC
    information
  • LAT Instrument Thermal Vacuum Balance Test Plan-
90 days prior to testing Instrument
  • Performance Verification Report Preliminary -
At PER for GSFC information Final - 30 days
following on-orbit check out for GSFC information
  • Preparation Information
  • Verification Report Provide after each
    unit/component, subsystem/instrument, and payload
    verification activity. For each analysis
activity the report will describe the degree to
which the objectives were accomplished, how well
the mathematical model was validated by the test
    data, and other significant results.
