Facts about the project

• 7 project areas - 839,9 ha
• Raise the water level on 361 ha
• Clear 270,7 ha of encroachment (trees and
  bushes). Establish conditions for development of
  active raised bog vegetation on 398 ha degraded
  raised bogs.
• Test and develop methods for restoring raised
  bogs in Denmark.
• Dissemination of results and methods.
• Costs 2.947.471 (22 mio DKK 27 mio SEK)
• 2005 - 2009

Inspiration from Canadian methods, but on
mineralized dark peat. Questions How do you make
sure that the Sphagnum fragments are in contact
with the peat? Must the layer of needles and
twigs be removed? Or can the needles and twigs
provide a favourable microclimate? Will a cover
