3Why are we here?
CommentThis slide is based on the JOHARI window
being A the arena field (clear communication
in both directions) and U the unknown area
(communication is disturbed in both directions).
- Students applying for internships often do not
know what the company is looking for (and vice
versa)
4What have we done?
We have interviewed students and companies in
order to switch from the unknown to the arena!
- Collected responses of 112 international students
- Interviewed 17 companies
- Compared the results

36Conclusion from our survey
In general, companies and students expect the
same from each other. However
- Students underestimate the companies demand for
practical skills and social integration - Students overestimate the companies need for
prior work experience
37Conclusion
- When you head for a certain company after
graduation, an internship can open you the doors
Example 50 of Procter and Gambles new managers
recruited have gone through an internship with
the company before.
38Conclusion
When applying for an internship
- present your practical skills
- consider that the company is looking for
prospective employees - prove that you socially fit into the company
