A creatures life cannot be looked upon as a
useful product for enriching
human life, but as a value which can be equaled
with it.
Every creature wants to live.

Plahi was the thirteenth runty little pig with
a bad eye infection which caused him to lose
one. . As a baby he received a blow which
left his balance center permanently damaged.
In the place from where he was saved, he
would have survived only few days.

After living as a subtenant in Zagreb for a
little while, Plahi starts a new life in his new
home.

On the farm from where he was rescued, Plahis
best friend Vocer was isolated at birth due to
his illness. Left to his own, ill, hurt and
undernourished, he had a slim chance of
survival.
Despite constant stumbling and fallings and poor
eyesight, Plahi starts to follow Vocer in his
wanderings and adventures. The two friends soon
become famous and the village dubs them
rascals.

Gruco the rabbit, who was bred for slaughter
together with his brothers and sisters, also
comes to the shelter as a former subtenant.
Soon after he is joined by a little female
rabbit named Grucolina.
The inseparable little couple peacefully watch
over every corner of their house, occasionally
enjoying a taste of the house furniture.

The sisters Ba and Be and their brother Šlapica
were saved from a cattle fair. The little
ducklings were cramped up together and, being
the last living animals that day, they waited
fearfully to be separated and taken to imminent
death. They live together with their guardian
and protector Viz the gander.
As a baby, Viz the gander was found in the
garbage, discarded after a cattle fair. Half-dead
with a broken leg and covered in scabs, he was
brought to the shelter.
Wishing to impose himself as the alpha-male of
all the creatures living in the shelter, Viz
uses his voice to achieve that which he cannot
with his stature, constantly yelling at
everything and everybody.

Modesti arrives at the shelter as a depressed
young heifer. On the farm, from where she was
saved right after her birth, she comes down with
severe pneumonia and is predicted a near
death.
Today Modesti is a healthy, happy and restless
cow, a little gourmand with a special taste for
apples and bananas.

Yogi the ox is the newest family member. As a
little calf he was saved in front of a
slaughterhouse. In the following years he often
changes his guardians, failing to settle down
anywhere.

He arrives at the shelter in a very bad
condition, with wounds from the rope he was tied
with, undernourished, exhausted and irascible.
After substantial meals and strolls on the
meadow, followed by hours of brushing and
tenderness, Yogi completely falls in love with
his new home.

...at the end story about Njinjica...
The little Vietnamese Potbelly pig Njinjica was
born four years ago with a weak cartilaginous
tissue defect. Right after birth, Njinjica is
separated from her mother and placed as a
decoration into the reality show Big Brother.
A few days later she goes into a coma.
After being taken in by her guardians the piggy
stays paralyzed and completely dependant on
their care. Only a one-year acupuncture
treatment gives promising results and alleviates
the sufferings of little Njinjica.

Ever since she first came into contact with
people, Njinjica suffers from agoraphobia. In the
shelter, she refuses to leave the house.
Incapable to stand on her front feet, she is
still dependant on the help of others in
performing all the basic functions, ranging from
feeding to bodily functions.
Nevertheless, she continues to receive huge
portions of love from her guardians.
