What is Proposition 201?

• Second hand smoking causes cancer
• Smoking will be banned in all enclosed areas and
  places of employment excluding
• 1. Private Residences
• 2. Specifically Designated Hotel rooms
• 3. Outdoor patios
• 4. Veteran and Fraternal clubs
• 5. Theatre for use in presentation

Where to smoke

• Outdoor patios so long as tobacco smoke does not
  enter areas where smoking is prohibited through
  entrances, windows, ventilation systems, or other
  means.
• Can be expensive to build patios
• Smokers left vulnerable to the weather

Who will it affect?

• It will affect the cigarette companies
• Bar and restaurant owners and workers
• The smoking minority
• Northern Arizona University has a student
  population of about 18,000 at its main campus in
  Flagstaff
• 26.7 of college students smoke cigarettes
  (Monitoring the Future, 2002)
• 1800026.7 4,806 students affected

Advantages of prop 201

• Less second hand smoke
• Less harmful cancer causing chemicals
• Makes indoor eating less smelly
• Save money by negating health costs
• Decrease the use of a gateway drug
• Increased revenue from a 2 cent additional tax on
  cigarettes

Disadvantages of prop 201

• Less convenient smoking areas
• Higher chance of getting fined
• More tax on cigarettes
• Discrimination
• Weakens civil liberties
• Difficult to build enough smoking space
• Burden for policemen

How will it affect bars and restaurants?

• Bars lose revenue
• Restaurants increase revenue
• Should we put all local bars at a disadvantage
  to the Indian Casinos that would still be able to
