2004
  • Arrival by Car Get to Autobahn A65 from
    Frankfurt/Mannheim/Ludwigshafen. Take exit
Edenkoben on A65, follow signs to Edenkoben,
drive straight through Edenkoben, after Edenkoben
comes Edesheim, take right (white sign!) to
Schloss at first major intersection in the middle
of this small village. (This is where main street
crosses the green walk from station which I drew
    on the map)
  • Arrival by train Take train from Frankfurt
Airport (Fernbahnhof, not underground station) to
Mannheim. Takes 31 mins. In Mannheim switch to
    S-Bahn to Neustadt/Weinstrasse (every 20 mins,
takes 25 mins), in Neustadt main station switch
to Edesheim. At Edesheim, follow the green walk
in map, it takes 5-10 minutes, some 600m.
  • Thursday evening On your own. Three
recommendations (1) Stay in the Schloss
(excellent meals, a bit expensive). (2)
Wein-Castell, see red arrow, close-by, good wine,
good meals). (3) Gasthaus Zur Blume. See map,
dotted blue 15 min walk through nice streets
    (Luitpoldstrasse and Ludwigsstrasse). On left
side after first right little street on
    Ludwigsstreet. Sweet little restaurant (better
Weinstube) with an imposing collection of corc
screws. A bit unprofessional, but very charming.
The owner-chef is a wine grower from Cologne.
    Reasonable prices, pay yourself.
  • Friday evening Conference dinner at nearby
village. MEA invites you. Nice 45-min walk
    through the vineyards highly recommended.
  • Saturday evening Own your own, see above. Or
explore the neighborhod villages. No shortage of
    winepubs.
  • Note The place is a village. There is a cash
maschine at the main intersection. Credit cards
are not liked. Cell phones (in particular GPRS)
have a hard time. There is a phone in each room,
    with internet dial up.
