Abbie Ochoa

• This is my tenth year teaching, fifth at Ironwood
  Elementary School.  I have taught one year in
  fifth grade, two years in first, and seven years
  in third grade.  Every year has been exciting and
  memorable, as I have been lucky to teach such
  wonderful students. 
• Ironwood Elementary is a great place where I
  truly enjoy being around such enthusiastic
  students, staff, and parents.
• I was born and raised in Kansas however, I have
  lived my entire adult life in Arizona.
• I have a wonderful husband and 3 beautiful
  children who have all attended Ironwood.

Pani McKenzie

• This is my tenth year of teaching. I have taught
  Kindergarten, second grade and third.
• I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business and
  Marketing from Cal Poly Pomona, CA. After
  volunteering in a friends third grade classroom,
  I left a lucrative position in the insurance
  industry in order to teach. I love my job as I
  enjoy helping kids and making a difference in
  their lives.
• I also enjoy working with parents to assist any
  individual needs and or concerns in their
  children and I am available whenever needed to
  discuss these.
• On a personal note, I am married and have a
  daughter in College.

Paul Swain

• Ive taught for over 30 years and in many
  different grade levels. I taught overseas for
  three years, and have been at Ironwood for seven
  years.
• I have a B.S. and a Masters in curriculum and
  instruction.
• I grew up in Tucson but have had the opportunity
  to travel extensively throughout my career. Some
  places include Hong Kong, South East Asia, Europe
  and many parts of the U.S.
• Im married and have two older boys who are out
  on their own.

Learning Goals- Math

• Math We will work on
• using place value through six digits
• adding/subtracting with regrouping
• mastering multiplication/division facts through
  9s
• extending patterns
• converting measurements
• interpreting graphs
• geometry concepts.

Mac-Ro Math Homework Program

• A state program aligned to our state standards
• Sponsored by the Rodel foundation
• Only for 3rd graders at our school
• Students will get a Mac-Ro book monthly and
  complete one page each night or as assigned by
  their teacher.
• Requires a parent check and signature with each
  lesson.
• Please return daily for pre-teach and re-teach
• Uses prizes and other motivation to engage
  students in homework

Learning Goals- Reading

• We will read many selections this year from our
  textbooks, supplemented with novels and other
  literature units.
• We work with a variety of genres including both
  fiction and non-fiction.
• In 3rd grade, emphasis is placed on comprehension
  and vocabulary skills.

Learning Goals- Writing/LA

• We will be working on improving our writing in
  the 6 areas.
• Their papers will be graded on ideas,
  organization, voice, sentence fluency, word
  choice, and conventions.
• We will write multiple-paragraph stories, essays,
  letters, and reports.

  and allows for zero
• tolerance of fighting. Interventions include
  the classroom and
• family support services of the Behavior
  Intervention Specialist
• and the Truancy Intervention Specialist. Stand
  Up/Speak Out
• Against Bullying has been implemented in all
  grades and classrooms.
• Success For All
• As a school, we are committed to seeing that
  every student is successful. We have and will
  continue to implement many interventions to help
  students succeed.
