2Content
3Objectives
- Evaluation of an experimental sprayer equipped
with four hydraulically driven rotary cage
atomizers(Proptec 100) - Comparison to a conventional ZA32 axial fan
sprayer with air guidance and the NA36 axial fan
sprayer as a reference
Objectives
4- Both ZA32 and the NA36 sprayers were operated
withATR 208 nozzles at 750 kPa liquid pressure - Sedimentation measurement was in an apple orchard
at Überlingen, Lake Constance area, Germany and
the measurements for vertical distribution and
drift potentialat the Research Institute
Geisenheim -
- Petri dishes were used as collectors for soil
sediment, filter paper spaced 20 cm for vertical
distribution and drift potential with BSF
fluorescent dye (conc. 0.1 ) for measurement by
a spectrophotometer

Materials and Methods
8- Air velocities, volume and air direction from two
different sprayers (ZA32 and Proptec100) were
measured by an ultrasonic sensor. The three
dimensional ultrasonic anemometer was connected
with PC and Data Acquisition system - The mean values of environmental conditions
during experiments were 9.8C and 15.9C ambient
temperature, 63 relative humidity percent for
vertical distribution and sedimentation
respectively

Materials and Methods
11Collector positioning in apple orchard
Materials and Methods
12Drift potential and vertical distribution
Tree horizontal beams for drift potential
2 x 4 upright polesfor vertical distribution
Materials and Methods
13Drift potential and vertical distribution
Filter papers fixedon 4 vertical bars
Filter papers fixed on horizontal beams
Materials and Methods
14 Air velocity and air volume
- The experimental sprayer produced lower values of
air velocity compared with NA 36 and ZA32
sprayers, because the axial fan of the Proptec
unit is rather small and the outlet for the air
is wide - Because of the wide outlet of the Proptec
atomizer the air volume is rather high -

22Soil sedimentation and drift potential
Conclusions
23Conclusions
- With 200 l/ha and 3.600 rpm rotational speed the
experimental sprayer with the Proptec units gave
the best results concerning soil sediment and
drift potential. Lower volume rates are possible
- With decreasing rotational speed and increasing
droplet size the soil sediment will increase
and the drift potential will further decrease - At very low rotational speed the air velocity
and air volume is affected considerably - For the vineyard two units per halve row are
sufficient, for the apple orchard three are
recommended
Conclusions
