• Se escogen para apacentar y pastorear el rebaño,
  cuidarlo, protegerlo de lobos rapaces, buscar
  ovejas descarriadas, velar por las almas de
  todos.
• They are chosen to feed and shepherd the flock,
  care for it, protect it from ravening wolves,
  seek the sheep that have gone astray, watch for
  souls.

  63. If even those who served tables were chosen
  by the church, how much more the elders.

• Todos los miembros están involucrados. Todos
  deben estudiar los requisitos y usarlos como
  regla para medir a los candidatos para ver si
  califican.
• All the members are involved. All should study
  the requirements and use them as a rule to
  measure the candidates to see if they qualify.

• Cuando la iglesia escogió a los siete hermanos
  para servir mesas tenían que medir a los
  candidatos por los requisitos nombrados por los
  apóstoles. Cuánto más para ser ancianos!
• When the church chose the seven brethren to serve
  tables they had to measure the candidates by the
  requirements named by the apostles. How much more
  in order to be elders!

• Cuando las iglesias enviaron su ofrenda para los
  santos necesitados de Jerusalén, cada iglesia
  escogió a sus propios mensajeros, 1 Cor. 163.
• When the churches sent their contribution to the
  needy saints of Jerusalem, each church chose its
  own messengers, 1 Cor. 163.

• Según esto todo miembro de la congregación tiene
  el derecho y el deber de participar en la
  selección de los ancianos.
• According to this every member of the
  congre-gation has the right and duty to
  participate in the selection of the elders.

• Se habla mucho de ancianos calificados, pero es
  indispensable que haya miembros calificados
  para escoger ancianos calificados.
• Much is said about qualified elders, but it is
  indispensable that there be qualified members
  in order to choose qualified elders.

• II. Entonces cómo se hace la selección? Cuáles
  son los pasos prácticos para ella? El N. T. no
  revela un procedimiento exacto.
• II. Then how is the selection made? What are the
  practical steps for it? The N. T. does not reveal
  an exact procedure.

• Como no nos dice un orden exacto para el culto,
  cuántos himnos debemos cantar, cuántas horas
  dedicar al culto, etc.
• Just as we are not told an exact order of
  worship, how many hymns to sing, how many hours
  to devote to the worship, etc.

• Por eso, se deja al juicio de la iglesia, pero
  debemos recordar ciertos textos como 1 Cor.
  1440 2 Cor. 821.
• Therefore it is left to the judgment of the
  church, but we should remember certain texts such

• Luego si juzgan que ciertos hermanos en realidad
  califican, deben proponer esos nombres a la
  congregación para su consideración.
• Then if they judge that certain brethren in
  reality qualify, they should propose these names

• Ahora llegamos al meollo del asunto lo que
  requiere mucha paciencia madurezunidad y amor
  fraternal. Es asunto delicado.
• Now we arrive at the heart of the matter that
  which requires much patiencematurityunity and
  brotherly love. Its a sensitive matter.

• Si hay objeción a uno o más de ellos, deberían
  explicar por qué. En esto deberían expresarse con
  toda franqueza pero siempre con amor fraternal.
• If there is objection to one or more of them,
  they should explain why. In this they should
  express themselves with all frankness but always
  with brotherly love.

• Aquí no cabe el simple no me gusta. La objeción
  debe ser bíblica, basada en los requisitos dados
  por el Espíritu Santo.

• Por ejemplo, no califica porque no tiene buen
  testimonio de los de afuera (1 Tim. 37) y luego

  solamente los hechos que se puedan concretar (2
  Cor. 131).

  no room in this process for any rumor or gossip,
  but only facts that can be proved (2 Cor. 131).

• En primer lugar, recordemos que si uno sabe que
  su hermano ha pecado, debe ir con él, hablar con
  él, exhortarle, tratar de ayudarle, Gál. 61.
• In the first place, remember that if one knows
  that his brother has sinned, he should go to him,
  talk with him, exhort him, try to help him, Gal.
  61.

• Entonces, como paso final, debería firmar su
  nombre a su escrito (la objeción). Esto es de
  suma importancia, porque es asunto solemne y
  sagrado. No conviene escribirla sin firmarla!
• Then, as the final step, you should sign your
  name to what you write. This is of utmost
  importance, because this is a solemn and sacred
  matter. Not proper to write it and not sign it!

• Una advertencia. Todo miembro está involucrado en
  este asunto. Nadie diga, Yo no sé nada de eso y
  no quiero saber nada. Gobierno de la iglesia!
• A warning. Every member is involved in this
  matter. Let no one say, I know nothing about
  that and dont want to know anything.
  Govern-ment of the church!

• Ancianos deben ser escogidos por todos los
  miembros de la congregación, los cuales en turno
  estarán sujetos a ellos (Heb. 1317) y deben
  conocerlos y estimarlos, 1 Tes. 512, 13.
• Elders should be selected by all the members of
  the congregation, who in turn must be in
  sub-jection to them (Heb. 1317) and should know
  them and esteem them, 1 Thess. 512, 13.

• Todo hermano que permita que su nombre sea
  sometido a la iglesia como candidato para
  anciano, debe estar dispuesto a escuchar lo que
  los miembros piensen sin disgustarse con ellos
• Every brother that permits his name to be

  elder, should be willing to listen to what the
  members think of him without becoming disgusted
  w/ them

• Debe pensar dos veces antes de empezar. Debe
  tener cuero de cocodrilo. Si no aguanta el
  calor no debe meterse en la cocina.
• He should think twice before beginning. He should
  have the hide of a crocodile. If he cant
  stand the heat, he should stay out of the
  kitchen.

• III. Por último, los hermanos aprobados son
  escogidos (designados, constituidos) formalmente
  como ancianos, Hech. 1423 Tito 15.
• III. Finally, the approved brethren are chosen
  (designados, appointed) formally as elders, Acts
  1423 Titus 15.

• El evangelista u otro hermano puede hacer esto en
  forma sencilla pero solemne delante de toda la
  congregación, pero esto solamente después de que
  la congregación misma los haya aprobado.
• The evangelist or other brother can do this in a
  simple but solemn manner before the whole
  congregation, but this only after the
  congregation itself has approved them.

• IV. La relación entre los miembros y sus
  ancianos. 1 Tes. 512, 13, reconozcáis y los
  tengáis en muy alta estima con amor, por causa de
  su trabajo.
• IV. The relation between the members and their
  elders. 1 Thess. 512, 13, know them and
  appreciate them in love for their works sake.

• Heb. 1317, Obedeced a vuestros pastores y
  sujetaos a ellos porque ellos velan por vuestras
  almas, como quienes han de dar cuenta.
• Heb. 1317, Obey those who rule over you, and be
  submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as
  those who must give account.

• 1 Tim. 519, No admitas acusación contra un
  anciano, a menos de que haya dos o tres
  testigos.

• En fin, es tan necesario que haya miembros
  calificados como tener ancianos calificados.

• Conclusión. No es difícil que la iglesia conozca
  los unos a los otros. Saben cuando hay hermanos
  deseosos de ser obispos y calificados para ello.
• Conclusion. It is not difficult for the church
  members to know each other. They know if there
  are brethren desirous of being bishops and
  qualified for it.

• El patrón bíblico es que cada iglesia tenga
  ancianos. Debemos seguirlo. Es arreglo divino y
  por eso muy bueno para la iglesia.
• The Bible pattern is that each church should have
  elders. We should follow it. It is a divine
  arrangement and therefore very good for the
  church.
