Basic Information

• Phylum- Anthophyta
• Geological Era- Mesozoic
• Existed during the late Triassic period
• Found in forest environments
• Microhabitats- Vegetative environments (soil,
  ect.)

Adaptation
Many bryophytes competed for the limited space in
moist conditions which promoted selection for
those that could live in dryer conditions. The
formation of vaculature and waxy cuticles allowed
them to move further away from water as well. The
development of heterospory helped with protection
from some dry conditions as well. Seed formation
eventually developed which allowed them to move
even further away to dry areas.

Morphology of Cabbage

• Has a short stem with a
• large mass of leaves over it.
• There is a globular cluster in the center (the
  head of it).
• Cabbage leaves also sometimes have a waxy coating
  on them called bloom.

Mode and Method of Fertilization

• A large sporophyte retains and nourishes the
  gametophytes its sperm are dispersed within
  pollen grains. Endosperm surrounds the embryo
  sporophytes inside the seeds of the flowering
  plant. As the seed begins to develop the ovaries
  mature into fruits. These fruits help protect and
  disperse the embryos. Many animals help transfer
  pollen and such as well.

Sporophyte Gametophyte Dependency

• The sporophyte is dependant on the gametophyte in
  that it leads to the production of a zygote which
  in turn leads to a sporophyte. However since it
  is a cycle a sporophyte produces microspores and
  megaspores which lead to the production of the
  male and female gametophytes.

Habitat

• Many dicots are found in herbaceous environments
• They can also be found in vegetative environments
  such as soil and other things.

Diversity

• There are 180,000 species of dicots.
• The habitat ranges from herbaceous (cabbage), to
  wet (water lilies), to even desert environments
  (cacti) and more.

Benefits

• Many can be eaten as a source of nutrition to us.
• Can be used for lumber, paper, and furniture.
• Oils from eucalyptus and camphor have medicinal
  uses. Digitalis pupurea from foxglove stabilizes
  the heartbeat.
• Many other unmentioned uses
